Perioperative Nursing Project Coordinator - Full Time - Bronson Battle CreekThe Perioperative Nursing Project Coordinator (PNPC) provides dedicated project management, quality improvement, regulatory readiness, and professional practice support for Surgical Services. This role partners with perioperative leadership, frontline teams, physicians, anesthesia, infection prevention, quality, regulatory, and interdisciplinary stakeholders to coordinate, implement, monitor, and sustain initiatives that improve patient safety, operational performance, staff engagement, patient experience, and accreditation readiness.
The coordinator is responsible for supporting Surgical Services projects from planning through execution, including development of project timelines, data tracking, performance reporting, action planning, follow-up, and evaluation of outcomes. This role supports perioperative quality and safety initiatives, including surgical site infection reduction, first-case on-time starts, turnover improvement, OR utilization, block utilization, patient experience, regulatory readiness, Pathway to Excellence, Magnet-related evidence, shared governance, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of Michigan.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Minimum two years perioperative nursing experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification preferred.
- Experience leading quality improvement, project management, evidence-based practice, regulatory readiness, or accreditation initiatives preferred.
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Management & Operational Improvement
- Coordinate perioperative projects from planning through implementation and evaluation.
- Manage project timelines, milestones, action plans, and communication with stakeholders.
- Support initiatives focused on OR utilization, block utilization, first-case on-time starts, turnover times, patient flow, and scheduling efficiency.
- Facilitate multidisciplinary teams to achieve operational and strategic goals.
- Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and visual presentations to communicate project progress, metrics, and outcomes to leaders and stakeholders.
- Facilitate meetings, document action items, and ensure accountability for project deliverables.
- Prioritize and coordinate multiple concurrent projects and initiatives across Surgical Services.
2. Quality, Regulatory & Performance Excellence
- Monitor, analyze, and report perioperative quality, safety, patient experience, and operational metrics.
- Support regulatory readiness, accreditation activities, audit processes, and compliance with evidence-based standards.
- Lead or support performance improvement initiatives designed to improve patient outcomes, reduce variation, and optimize workflows.
- Perform root cause analysis and assist leaders in developing and monitoring corrective action plans.
3. Professional Practice & Magnet/Pathway Support
- Support shared governance, evidence-based practice, and professional development initiatives within Surgical Services.
- Coordinate Magnet/Pathway evidence collection, documentation, and professional practice deliverables.
- Facilitate staff involvement in quality improvement, Kaizen activities, presentations, publications, and recognition programs.
- Serve as a resource for promoting evidence-based, patient-centered perioperative practice.
- Mentor and support staff involved in evidence-based practice, quality improvement, poster presentations, and professional recognition activities
- Maintain clinical competency to support quality initiatives, staff education, workflow improvement efforts, and operating staffing needs as appropriate
- Provide direct clinical support and assist with staffing coverage as needed to ensure safe patient care, continuity of operations, and support of departmental needs.
Expected Outcomes
Success in this role will be demonstrated through:
- Improved operational performance and efficiency within Surgical Services (e.g., OR utilization, block utilization, first-case on-time starts, turnover times, and patient flow).
- Support of quality, patient safety, and regulatory readiness initiatives (e.g., SSI reduction efforts, audit findings, accreditation preparedness, and compliance with evidence-based practice standards).
- Successful execution and sustainment of departmental projects and strategic priorities.
- Advancement of professional practice through Magnet/Pathway activities, shared governance, evidence-based practice, and staff engagement initiatives.
- Meaningful use of data to identify opportunities, measure outcomes, and inform leadership decision-making.
