Description

The Athletic Attendant performs entry-level workassisting the Athletics Program Coordinator in facilitating practices, games, camps and clinics by attending to facility and program needs during activities. Generally, this position uses basic skills and works under close supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.

  • Assist with evening and weekend supervision of facilities used for youth and adult sport leagues, to include pre-assigned athletic and rental activities.
  • Maintain records, including but not limited to program and participant surveys, accident and incident reports and league rosters; monitors inventory of supplies and reports deficiencies to supervisor for ordering.
  • Serve as a liaison to youth and adult league officials and/or parents concerning sports programming and facilities.
  • Facilitate and instruct programs as approved by the Athletics Program Coordinator to meet community needs.
  • When necessary, handle rules interpretation and enforcement, according to department policies and procedures.
  • Facilitate field lights as back-up for automated scheduling system, check locks and facility equipment such as score board and controllers for correct functionality.
  • Maintain facility cleanliness and actively ensure a clean and safe environment.
  • Responsible for reporting potential and existing safety issues or concerns to supervisor to ensure patron safety.
  • Attend to restroom, pavilion, and trash receptacle cleanliness and restocking.
  • Prepare fields by performing basic maintenance such as raking, dragging, painting and chalking. 
  • Prepare courts by hanging goals, cranking goals down, setting up scoreboards, etc.
  • Assist in coordinating city-wide special events, including event setup and tear down.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
  • Must be at least 16 years of age or older.
  • Actively in high school, OR High school graduate or its equivalent.
  • Ability to work hours other than the regular daytime schedule, such as evenings and weekends.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Valid Driver’s License from any state in the US. Ability to obtain a Texas driver’s license within 90 days, per state law. 
  • First Aid & CPR/AED Certification or must obtain within 60 days of hire.
Preferred Education and/or Experience
  • Experience with youth sports.
  • Some experience with facility operations. 
  • Some experience with sporting technology, such as scoreboards. 

  • The ability to show up for every shift on time. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with league officials and coaches.
  • Knowledge of basic rules of baseball and basketball. 
  • Ability to perceive problem situations with user groups and implement immediate solutions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a large number of people with a variety of requests. 
  • Ability to learn the principles, policies, and practices of the Parks and Recreation Department.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to follow detailed verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to communicate with other employees and the general public in a courteous and diplomatic manner.
  • Skill in operating assigned equipment safely.
  • Ability to work hours other than the regular daytime schedule such as evenings and weekends.
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle and feel items, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift or move 50 pounds and drag, push, or pull 75 pounds. 

Working Conditions  
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
