The University of Northern Iowa's Department of History seeks applications for a renewable term Assistant Professor of Instruction in Applied Ethics position, starting in January 2027. This position is endowed through the David W. Wilson Endowment for Integrity and Excellence in the Wilson College of Business, with the specific purpose of expanding ethics education across the campus. The successful candidate will be designated a Wilson Ethics Fellow. The position has a 4/4 teaching load. The successful candidate will be expected to teach Business Ethics and Professional Ethics, and to work collaboratively with UNI's Wilson College of Business within the context of its ethics education initiatives. The position will also offer the opportunity to teach other courses as part of the “Ethics, Philosophy, and Religion” program housed in the Department of History, depending on the candidate's qualifications, interests, and departmental needs. The Department is interested in candidates who will share the Department's commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and to engaged service (mentoring students, serving on committees, and offering programming on campus and in the wider community).
Education Requirements:
Earned doctorate in Philosophy required.
Required Qualifications:
Compelling record of effective teaching in Applied Ethics as well as demonstrated ability to teach “Ethics for Professional Life” and “Philosophy of Law" required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to teach in multiple subfields of Applied Ethics; record of effective teaching in both face-to-face and online modalities; and demonstrated ability to teach other Philosophy courses, such as Political Philosophy and Existentialism preferred.
