What are Trust Fund Positions?
Trust Fund positions are unique to the Smithsonian. They are paid for from a variety of sources, including the Smithsonian endowment, revenue from our business activities, donations, grants and contracts. Trust employees are not part of the civil service, nor does trust fund employment lead to Federal status. The salary ranges for trust positions are generally the same as for federal positions and in many cases trust and federal employees work side by side. The Office of Advancement oversees and guides the fundraising efforts of the entire Smithsonian and is home to the central advancement organization for the Institution. In addition to raising significant support for a variety of Smithsonian initiatives, the Office of Advancement provides support services to advancement offices across the Institution. The office engages with staff throughout the Smithsonian in accomplishing their goals.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Smithsonian Institution's Office of Advancement seeks an experienced CRM Platform Integration Analyst to serve as a key member of the Advancement Technology Services team responsible for supporting the Institution's enterprise fundraising CRM platform (JAMES), built on Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud.
This position serves as a technical specialist responsible for application configuration, data quality management, system administration, business process automation, and CRM application development supporting more than 400 users across the Smithsonian Institution. This position combines technical expertise in Salesforce application development with extensive knowledge of constituent data management, fundraising operations, and enterprise CRM best practices.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Candidates may qualify for this position through a combination of education, demonstrated knowledge, and relevant professional experience.
- A bachelor's degree and a minimum of four years of experience managing and maintaining data within large, complex Salesforce environments are required. Preference will be given to candidates with experience supporting fundraising operations, as well as proficiency in SQL, SOQL, and AWS technologies.
Salesforce CRM Application Development (50%)
- Configures, develops, tests, and maintains Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud applications supporting fundraising, donor relations, membership, prospect management, stewardship, and campaign management.
- Develops and maintains Salesforce objects, fields, page layouts, validation rules, flows, approval processes, formulas, and Lightning applications.
- Designs and implements automation using Salesforce Flow and other declarative development tools to improve business efficiency and reduce manual processing.
- Assists in evaluating business requirements and translating functional needs into scalable Salesforce solutions.
- Participates in software development lifecycle activities including requirements gathering, design, testing, deployment, documentation, and production support.
- Troubleshoots application issues and recommends system improvements to enhance usability, performance, and data integrity.
- Supports application releases, regression testing, and change management activities.
CRM System Administration and Management (20%)
- Monitors CRM functionality and identifies opportunities for optimization and continuous improvement.
- Assists with user acceptance testing of new functionality and system enhancements.
- Maintains technical documentation, configuration standards, and operational procedures.
- Collaborates with Salesforce administrators, developers, and business stakeholders to implement enhancements aligned with organizational priorities.
Data Quality Management (30%)
- Develops, implements, and maintains enterprise data quality standards supporting constituent and fundraising information.
- Identifies, researches, and resolves duplicate constituent records, household relationships, deceased constituents, organizational affiliations, and other complex data quality issues.
- Designs and executes proactive data quality monitoring processes using reports, dashboards, queries, and automated validation tools.
- Performs data cleansing, normalization, enrichment, and ongoing maintenance using interactive updates, data imports, interfaces, and automated processes.
- Partners with business units to improve data collection procedures and ensure adherence to institutional data governance policies.
- Validates data conversions, integrations, and migration activities associated with Salesforce implementation and ongoing system enhancements.
- Identifies repetitive manual processes and develops automated solutions that improve efficiency while maintaining data integrity.
