JOB DESCRIPTION
Critical Solutions is seeking a Windows Systems Engineer to support our federal customer.
The Windows Platform Services team is responsible for maintaining, supporting, and securing Windows Server operating systems within a large-scale enterprise environment.
Platform Services work will be performed at the customer location which is required to support unclassified or classified environments. The position requires the ability to effectively collaborate with both internal and external teams while supporting mission-critical systems and services.
PRIMARY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform Windows Server patching, IAVA vulnerability remediation, and security compliance activities across supported environments.
- Build, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Windows Server 2016, 2019, and 2022 systems.
- Support the full IT infrastructure lifecycle, including planning, installation, configuration, ongoing administration, monitoring, troubleshooting, upgrades, and decommissioning.
- Ensure Windows Server platforms remain compliant with established operational policies, security requirements, and industry standards.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve operating system, infrastructure, patching, and application-related issues.
- Perform STIG remediation and support ongoing cybersecurity compliance activities.
- Support critical enterprise applications, infrastructure, and services in coordination with internal technical teams, customers, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Participate in projects and operational initiatives of moderate complexity, providing technical analysis, recommendations, and implementation support.
- Exercise independent judgment within established processes and procedures to identify appropriate technical solutions and corrective actions.
- Evaluate unique technical situations and provide recommendations to improve system reliability, security, and operational efficiency.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a U.S. citizen and possess an active DoD Secret Security Clearance or higher.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience and 7+ years of general experience
- 2–5 years of relevant experience supporting Windows Server or enterprise IT environments. Additional technical certifications related to Windows Server administration, cybersecurity, cloud technologies, or infrastructure operations are a plus.
- Current Security+ certification
- Strong communication, analytical, and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work an afternoon/night shift, Tuesday through Saturday. The specific shift assignment will be determined closer to the start date based on the team's staffing needs. Candidates must be available for either shift.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT:
- Active Security+ certification
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Windows Server administration and troubleshooting
- Windows Server patching and IAVA vulnerability mitigation
- Windows Server builds, including Windows Server 2016, 2019, and 2022
- Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) remediation and compliance
- Experience supporting Windows platforms within a large-scale enterprise environment
LOCATION:
- On-site 100%. Norfolk, VA
- Ability to work an afternoon/night shift, Tuesday - Saturday. The specific shift assignment will be determined closer to the start date based on the team's staffing needs. Candidates must be available for either shift.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT: Must possess an active DoD Secret Clearance. In addition, selected candidate must undergo background investigation (BI) and finger printing by the federal agency and successfully pass the preceding to qualify for the position. US CITIZENSHIP IS REQUIRED.
CRITICAL SOLUTIONS PAY AND BENEFITS:
Salary range $87,00 - $112,000. The salary range for this position represent the typical salary range for this job level and this does not guarantee a specific salary. Compensation is based upon multiple factors such as responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, certifications, and other requirements.
