Description
Maximum of 20 hours per week. Shifts vary on department needs and season.
- Keeps sidewalks, grassy areas, and dumpsters free from trash, litter, and debris.
- Empties trash receptacles.
- Cleans exterior of receptacles as needed to maintain a sanitary environment.
- Removes graffiti, gum, and pet waste if encountered.
- Prepares outdoor areas for various weather conditions.
- Reports any damaged equipment or low inventory items to Supervisor.
- Attends all staff training prior to start.
- Performs light mulch application and turf repair as needed and under direction.
- Operates a Town vehicle and related tools and equipment.
- Wears appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment) such as safety vest, gloves, glasses etc. as required and as needed in the performance of the position.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- General knowledge of how to clean using applicable tools and appropriate cleaning solutions and supplies.
- Skill in the operation of light equipment and tools utilized in the work.
- Ability to maintain the downtown to specific standards.
- Considerable knowledge of the work hazards and applicable safety standards associated with maintaining (emptying and cleaning) of trash receptacles, downtown dumpster enclosures, sidewalks, grassy areas, and downtown infrastructure.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
- Ability to interact appropriately with downtown business owners, citizens, and visitors.
Special Requirements
Valid North Carolina Driver's License
Physical Requirements
Must have the ability to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/ or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, feeling, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Must possess the visual acuity to operate a motor vehicle, broom, trash picker, blower, and mobile vacuum.
Working Conditions
Employee will be exposed to inside and outside environment conditions with both hot and cold temperatures. Holiday work may be required at some events.
