Summary:
WAMU 88.5 is a public media station owned and operated by American University. WAMU is the source for local, regional and NPR news and original programs in Washington DC. Since 1961, WAMU has been amplifying voices and sharing stories from the many neighborhoods and communities in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia.
The 1A Podcast/ Plus Producer is responsible for the integrated daily production and distribution of both the 1A podcast and 1A Plus products (versions of the daily program created for member stations that don’t air 1A live), ensuring timely and uninterrupted delivery to both broadcast and digital audiences.
Working under the direction of the Senior Supervising Producer, this individual serves as the primary producer responsible for the daily preparation, editing and distribution of these products
This includes re-packaging and re-editing content from the live version of 1A that airs each morning to ensure it a) meets the needs of the dozens of broadcast stations that air 1A Plus across multiple time zones and b) that the broadcast program is appropriately edited to meet the differing expectations of the on-demand podcast audience. The producer edits content as needed, coordinates host retracks, ensures the various products meet all timing requirements, and incorporates sponsorship messages, funding credits, and other required program elements. In addition, the Podcast/Plus producer uploads and distributes both podcast and Plus versions, ensuring all deadlines are met.
This position reports to the Senior Supervising Producer, 1A.
Essential Functions:
1.) Produces and Edits the Daily 1A Plus and 1A Podcast Products
Repackages and re-edits the live 1A broadcast into products tailored for both member station and on-demand podcast audiences.
Edits and assembles program content, including pacing, timing, and flow while preserving the editorial integrity of the original program.
Supervises host retracks and incorporates sponsorship messages, funding credits, and other required program elements.
Ensures all products meet editorial, broadcast, and technical quality standards.
2.) Performs the Technical Production, Quality Control, and Distribution of the Daily 1A Plus and Podcast Products
Oversee final production workflows to ensure timely and uninterrupted delivery across broadcast and digital platforms.
Performs final quality assurance and verifies all timing and formatting requirements are met.
Uploads, publishes, and distributes podcast and 1A Plus products according to established production schedules and deadlines.
Troubleshoots production and distribution issues to ensure reliable daily delivery.
3.) Supports the overall production of other 1A programming, with specific responsibilities for producing Rebroadcasts (shows re-aired on holidays etc.) and Evergreen Editions (the regularly updated emergency programs provided to stations in case of significant technical difficulties).
4.) Provides guidance and technical assistance to 1A staff and collaborators regarding podcast and 1A Plus production workflows and serves as a resource to support operational continuity.

Salary Range:
$68,656.00 annually.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
1 - 3 years of relevant experience.
Experience in audio production, journalism, broadcast production, or a related field.
High level of aptitude with audio editing and sound design, with a firm grasp of one or more editing platforms.
Experience of and aptitude for working on tight daily deadlines.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to offer and accept constructive feedback.
Highly organized, experience setting up audio file inventories and tracking tape assets.
Demonstrates an interest in mentoring other teammates, including freelancers and interns.
Strong writing skills and editorial judgment.
Experience using multimedia content production and other online tools to edit photos, audio, and video, (WordPress, Adobe, Final Cut Pro).
Experience working with content management systems (CMS).
Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
Driven and determined, demonstrated creative problem-solving skills.
Keen understanding of national and international current events, and excellent news and narrative judgment.
Time management skills, flexibility, and ability to work effectively in a dynamic, unpredictable news environment.
