Description

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We're looking for a motivated Functional Safety Intern (ideally 6 months, mandatory internship) to join our Safety Systems team in Schönaich (close to Stuttgart), with a flexible start date. You will own the tooling that keeps our safety evidence coherent — requirement files, our ALM system, test annotations and CI all need to agree with each other — and you will build it working alongside AI coding agents, every day. Roughly 60% of your time goes into safety tooling you own outright, 20% into supporting certification and assessment work, and 20% into requirements engineering. If that is your passion this is a uniquely impactful place to develop your skills.

HERE'S WHERE YOU MAKE AN IMPACT

  • Build and maintain the synchronisation between our requirement files and the ALM system

  • Write CI checks that enforce safety evidence rather than merely describe it — traceability from requirements to tests, and coverage figures that can be relied on

  • Maintain the automation around our review and release workflows, treating these as support tools under the standard, with the tool-qualification thinking that implies

  • Prepare responses to external assessor review protocols and track document versions issued to the assessor, so open points can be closed

  • Author and refine requirements across the product, system and unit tiers; maintain traceability and gap registers; keep requirements and architecture diagrams consistent with one another

WHO YOU ARE

  • Enrolled MSc student in Electrical Engineering, Software, Mechatronic or Robotics — with a strong interest in functional safety

  • Working knowledge of safety development lifecycles and workflows

  • Exposure to a functional safety standard (IEC 61508, ISO 13849, ISO 26262, or IEC 62061)

  • Familiarity with FMEA, diagnostic coverage, or failure-rate budgeting

  • Experience with ALM or requirements tools such as Polarion, codebeamer, Jama, or DOORS

  • Real experience working with AI coding agents (Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor or equivalent) — be ready to talk about what you built, where it was confidently wrong, and how you found out

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU

  • Flexible working hours when life takes unexpected turns

  • Company support for gym memberships through Wellpass

  • Birthday vouchers

  • Drinks and coffee (free of charge, of course)

  • Snacks and fruit for all employees, as well as breakfast every Monday

  • Regular global team-building events such as boot camps, skiing, and summer BBQs

  • An international team with long-term prospects

  • Highly competent colleagues who are experts in their field and happy to support you in your learning and growth

  • Modern office space

  • Our company's WG (upon availability)
