About the job
Based at the Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur / within the Marketing Communications Department in Kuala Lumpur, the Director of Marketing Communications is responsible for the development, implementation, execution and budget control of the hotel’s annual marketing and communications strategy. Work closely with the Director of Commercial Strategy to ensure the marketing and communications strategy supports the hotel’s revenue generating efforts. The Director of Marketing Communications reports to the Director of Commercial Strategy.

As Director of Marketing Communications, you will be responsible for the following duties: 

•    Oversee all matters relating to the marketing and communications plan including media relations, digital marketing, consumer relationship management, social media, advertising, brand identity and collateral production as well as all other marketing activities for the hotel to ensure fully integrated campaigns
•    Maintain regular contact with local, regional and international press and initiate media coverage of hotel activities to increase hotel’s visibility and ensure regular exposure through print, radio and television
•    Encourage and create regular press release material highlighting new services, special promotions and the Unique Selling Propositions of hotel
•    Issue press releases and photo captions as well as update press kit
•    Host media visits and regular entertainment with journalists
•    Tackle press queries, speak on behalf of the General Manager and coordinate all interviews with respective EXCOs and DHAs
•    Take responsibility for handling crisis communications component of crisis management and act as hotel spokesperson where appropriate
•    Liaise with overseas Public Relations consulting firms and the MOHG Corporate Communications Director
•    Liaise with F&B on monthly food promotions to ensure all collaterals printed and press releases issued to ensure maximum coverage
•    Coordinate with publishing house to produce corporate newsletters
•    Work with People & Culture to produce and design employee newsletter for internal distribution
•    Establish ties and work with contacts to sponsor events which contribute toward increasing the visibility of the hotel as a caring corporate citizen, ie. green environment issues, fund raising activities
•    Deal with all correspondence related to sponsorship and issue complimentary vouchers for rooms and food and beverage
•    Liaise with F&B and marketing departments to coordinate all hotel promotions and marketing drives

As Director of Marketing Communications, we expect from you: 

•    Minimum 5 years working experience in the hotel industry or reputable PR agency
•    Degree or Diploma in Business Administration or Hotel Management
•    Previous experience is essential in similar department or capacity
•    Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
•    Excellent verbal, written and non-verbal communications skills
•    Strong creativity and leadership skills
