Location: Sheffield

Contract: Permanent

Salary/annum: Min £44,500 - Max £80,500

Principal Engineer – Friction Welding & Processing

Are you an experienced engineering leader looking to make an impact across some of the world's most demanding industries?

TWI is seeking a Principal Engineer to provide technical leadership across strategically important programmes supporting the space, aerospace, nuclear, automotive and defence sectors. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside global industry leaders, government organisations and major engineering organisations on challenging and high value projects.

What you'll be doing

  • Leading the technical delivery of complex engineering and research programmes.
  • Acting as a recognised technical authority across key industry sectors.
  • Developing trusted relationships with customers, industry partners and government stakeholders.
  • Identifying and securing new business opportunities.
  • Leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and mentoring technical staff.
  • Representing TWI at customer meetings, conferences and industry events.
  • Supporting the growth of TWI's technical capabilities and strategic objectives.

What we're looking for

You will hold a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science or a related discipline and ideally be Chartered, or working towards Chartered Engineer status.

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience working within highly regulated industries such as:

  • Aerospace
  • Space
  • Defence
  • Nuclear
  • Automotive
  • Advanced Manufacturing

You will also demonstrate:

  • Significant technical leadership experience.
  • Strong stakeholder and client management skills.
  • Experience developing successful technical proposals and securing work.
  • Project delivery expertise within complex engineering environments.
  • The ability to mentor and develop engineering talent.

A BPSS clearance requirement applies to this role. Existing security clearance would be advantageous.

Travel:

This position may require regular travel in the UK.

Working hours:

36 hours per week (full time), 8.30am -16.30pm Monday to Thursday (finishing at 16.15pm on Friday). Part-time and hybrid working available in some roles.
