A Day in the Life

The Pharma Laboratory Quality Control function supports the release and ongoing quality oversight of Medtronic drug combination products. This team partners closely with Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure pharmaceutical products are tested, controlled, and released in accordance with current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) requirements, regulatory expectations, and internal quality standards. The laboratory plays a critical role in safeguarding product quality, supporting operational performance, and maintaining compliance across the product lifecycle.

A Day in The Life Of:

As Senior Engineering Supervisor, Quality Control Pharma Laboratory, you will lead a team responsible for quality control testing, laboratory operations, compliance activities, and batch release support for pharmaceutical combination products. You will collaborate across Quality, Manufacturing, and operational teams to ensure laboratory performance, regulatory compliance, employee development, and continuous improvement objectives are achieved.

• Supervise daily Quality Control laboratory operations and ensure activities are executed in compliance with regulatory and company requirements.
• Lead and develop Quality Control laboratory personnel through coaching, training, performance management, and succession planning initiatives.
• Ensure testing activities, raw data, laboratory records, and analytical results are completed accurately, documented appropriately, and reported on time.
• Support production schedules and participate in operational planning activities to enable timely batch release and business continuity.
• Collaborate with Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, and cross-functional partners to maintain compliance with the Quality Management System.
• Promote adherence to current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP), Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), safety, housekeeping, and security requirements.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives, laboratory process enhancements, and scientific studies that improve efficiency, compliance, and quality performance.
• Support method development, method validation, method transfer activities, and implementation of best practices across laboratory operations

Key Skills & Experience  

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or related scientific discipline and 3+ years of pharmaceutical Quality Control laboratory experience, including supervisory or people leadership responsibilities or an advanced degree with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience
• Demonstrated knowledge of pharmaceutical manufacturing operations, current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) requirements, United States Pharmacopeia (USP), U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidance, and International Council for Harmonisation (ICH) guidance
• Experience supporting Quality Control testing and laboratory operations within a regulated pharmaceutical environment
• Experience with laboratory documentation practices, data integrity requirements, and Quality Management Systems
• Ability to lead teams, prioritise workload, and support operational objectives in a manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Analytical techniques including High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Gas Chromatography (GC), Dissolution, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Ultraviolet/Visible (UV/Vis) spectroscopy, and wet chemistry methods
• Method validation, method transfer, and compendial verification activities
•  Supporting laboratory investigations, deviations, corrective and preventive actions, and continuous improvement programmes
• Experience within a pharmaceutical, combination product, or medical device manufacturing environment
• Knowledge of batch release processes and product quality oversight activities

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
