Davis & Floyd is seeking a Water Resources Designer II to join our Greenville or Florence, SC team! The Water Resources Designer II is responsible for assisting engineering staff in the design development of civil projects. We are looking for a highly motivated professional with strong organizational and time management skills to support our team. Working under the direction of engineers, project managers, and discipline leads, this candidate will develop preliminary drafts of projects, assist with determining project feasibility, create construction design documents, and generate accurate and detailed records of engineering data. This position is expected to perform drafting and design support duties with increasing independence and contribute to multiple projects simultaneously.
Responsibilities
- Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D software to provide support to engineers by performing a variety of design and drafting activities, including layouts, detail drawings, sketches, and diagrams
- Perform drafting operations for the development of project plans
- Develop and draft engineering drawings and plans
- Perform fieldwork, documentation, research, and drafting tasks related to engineering data as requested by clients or managers
- Review rough sketches, drawings, and other engineering data received from engineers
- Convert field survey data into topographic survey drawings and 3D models suitable for producing drawings and layout data
- Create detailed construction drawings of proposed improvements such as roads, bridges, drainage systems, water and sewer facilities, planting plans, and land development projects
- Prepare 2D and 3D construction layout data suitable for staking by field surveyors or use in GPS-controlled construction equipment
- Maintain proficiency in automated design programs
- Understand and implement client-specific CAD standards
- Perform drafting for construction drawings and figures for various projects under the guidance of the project engineer in accordance with selected CAD standards
- Prepare maps, conceptual plans, cross sections, and other exhibits suitable for client presentations and reports
- Interact and collaborate with engineers and project teams to produce high-quality designs and drawings that meet project requirements and CAD standards
- Assist with quality reviews of drawings and design files prior to project submittals
- Perform regular computer software and AutoCAD maintenance, upgrading, and troubleshooting
- Maintain up-to-date working and technical knowledge of procedural and technology improvements
- Draft designs according to instructions provided
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Associate's degree in Technical Design with CAD coursework or equivalent combination of education and experience; or Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school
- 3 to 5 years of civil design/drafting experience
- AutoCAD Certified preferred
- Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions
- Ability to operate, access, and maintain diverse software applications
- Skill in updating, maintaining, operating, and evaluating AutoCAD software and related equipment
- Ability to professionally interact with clients, consultants, and staff
- Must be a self-starter with strong attention to detail
- Proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D and AutoCAD required
- Ability to accurately prepare construction documents and meet project deadlines
- Experience with engineering projects required
Preferred Qualifications
- Design experience in water treatment and distribution systems, wastewater collection, conveyance systems, and treatment facilities, or a combination thereof
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal design standards
- Experience working in a consulting engineering environment
