The Claremont Community Services Department is hiring for Maintenance Assistants for the Maintenance and Sanitation Division.
Maintenance Division
Maintenance Assistants assigned to the Maintenance Division will assist the City by performing basic maintenance tasks, as assigned. The Maintenance Division is split into two crews: Buildings/Infrastructure and Parks.
Buildings/Infrastructure- These employees will perform basic building maintenance, pick up trash, remove graffiti, conduct minor asphalt patching, provide sewer maintenance, replace/install signs, and power wash.
Parks - These employees will perform basic irrigation repairs, playground equipment repairs, and basic plumbing repairs, and will assist with maintenance and burials at the City-owned cemetery.
Sanitation Division
Maintenance Assistants assigned to the Sanitation Division will assist commercial refuse drivers with moving bins and navigating clearance zones. They will pick-up and deliver dumpsters, automated containers, and bulky household item discards; perform valet services; and keep the City Yard clean.
The Maintenance Assistant position is 25 hours per week between Monday and Sunday, 4:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Hours of work may vary, and some evening and holiday hours may be required. Actual work schedule depends on crew assignment and will be determined upon hire. All Maintenance Assistant assignments are made at the discretion of the Director of Community Services.
Education: Qualified applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have completed 12th grade or equivalent (GED).
Experience: Some maintenance experience is required.
Licenses and Certifications: Due to the performance of field duties which will require operation of a motor vehicle, a valid California Class C Driver's License and an acceptable driving record at the time of appointment is required. Employees must maintain a current license and acceptable driving record throughout the term of employment.
Physical Abilities: The Maintenance Assistant position involves heavy physical work, including lifting and carrying up to 75 pounds or more;pushing and pulling containers, carts, tools, equipment, and materials exceeding 100 pounds; frequent bending, twisting, squatting, climbing, andreaching; and working outdoors in heat, sunlight, dust, noise, and other environmental conditions.
