Hub Coordinator

• Practical Application: You will apply your learning directly to your role—identifying operational bottlenecks, reducing food/supply waste, designing efficient inventory systems, and standardising community service delivery.
• Dedicated Study Time: You will receive protected off-the-job training time during working hours to attend workshops, complete coursework, and build your project portfolio.
• Support: You will have regular mentoring from both Wirral Change management and an external training provider coach to ensure successful completion and End-Point Assessment (EPA).

• Plan, prepare, and cook balanced meals for the lunch club and organisational events, providing monthly updates to the Admin Team Leader.
• Maintain kitchen hygiene and organisation to the highest standards, ensuring strict compliance with Food Hygiene, HACCP, and Health & Safety regulations.
• Conduct regular hub checks and routine cleaning to maintain environmental health and safety standards.
• Coordinate deep cleaning schedules, pest control visits, and routine equipment servicing and repairs.
• Monitor and minimise food waste through sensible portion planning, cost control, and sustainable disposal methods.
• Deliver warm, efficient, and inclusive customer service across all food and hub offerings.
• Support catering, logistical needs, and room setups for visiting community groups and internal functions.

Donations, Shop & Inventory Coordination:

• Oversee the intake, cataloguing, and safe storage of community donations (food parcels, clothing, sports equipment, and financial contributions).
• Support the operational setup and daily coordination of the Community Shop and Community Café, including stock organisation, display, and pricing.
• Design and maintain clear, efficient distribution procedures for food parcels and relief supplies.
• Liaise with local businesses, food partners, suppliers, and donors to build steady resource pipelines.
• Maintain tidy, secure, and fully auditable storage and stock areas.

Volunteer Leadership & Administration

• Supervise, guide, and support volunteers within the hub, fostering a welcoming, productive, and appreciative environment.
• Keep precise operational records, including food temperature logs, cleaning schedules, donation receipts, and compliance documentation.
• Provide routine reporting to the Admin Team Leader regarding operational performance, challenges, process improvements, and successes.
• Collaborate with colleagues across Wirral Change to support wider organisational goals and service delivery.

• Apprenticeship Commitment: Willingness and eligibility to commit to and complete the Level 3 Improvement Technician Apprenticeship alongside core duties.
• Kitchen / Food Service Experience: Practical background in kitchen coordination, catering, or food handling, ideally within a community, voluntary, or hospitality setting.
• Food Safety Standards: Sound working knowledge of food hygiene, safe food storage, cross-contamination prevention, and allergen awareness.
• Organisation & Multitasking: Strong organisational and time-management skills, capable of juggling food prep, front-of-house service, and stock tasks.
• Communication & People Skills: Clear, empathetic interpersonal skills with the ability to engage comfortably with diverse service users, staff, and volunteers.
• Problem Solving & Initiative: Proactive approach to daily challenges, with an interest in improving systems and team workflows.
• Team & Volunteer Guidance: Ability to direct, encourage, and support volunteers in an inclusive manner.
• Resilience: Calm and dependable under pressure, adapting flexibly to shifting community priorities.

Desirable Criteria:

• Prior experience working or volunteering within a charitable or community development organisation.
• Formal Food Hygiene Certification (Level 2 or higher).
• Understanding of diverse cultural dietary practices (e.g., Halal, vegetarian, vegan) and common allergen accommodations.
• Experience in stock control, retail display, or community event coordination.
• Basic understanding of continuous improvement tools (e.g., 5S, waste reduction, workflow mapping).
• Ability to work occasional flexible hours (evenings or weekends) for scheduled events.
• Ability to speak an additional community language relevant to the local area.
