Assistant or Associate Professor of Kinesiology – Physical Education

Texas A&M University–Victoria seeks one full-time, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Kinesiology – Physical Education, with a start date of January 2027. The position is located at the Victoria Campus.

Qualifications: The College of Education and Health Professions at Texas A&M University–Victoria invites applications for a tenure-track position in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Physical Education. We seek an individual with an earned doctorate in Kinesiology, Physical Education, Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE), Exercise Science, Human Performance, or a closely related field by December 2026.

Candidates should have evidence of strong teaching at the higher education level and a working knowledge of Texas Education Agency expectations for educator preparation and teacher certification. Candidates should also demonstrate an understanding of contemporary approaches to physical education, physical activity, health, and human performance.

Successful candidates will:

• Teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in Kinesiology and Physical Education in traditional and online formats (4-course or equivalent teaching load in the fall and spring semesters);
• Teach and support coursework associated with the preparation of PK–12 Physical Education teacher certification candidates;
• Teach courses appropriate to the candidate's expertise in areas such as physical education methods, motor development and learning, adapted physical activity, fitness and wellness, exercise science, human performance, or related areas;
• Prepare teacher candidates to design and deliver developmentally appropriate, standards-based physical education instruction;
• Support and mentor students completing field-based experiences, clinical teaching, internships, and other applied learning experiences;
• Contribute to curriculum development, program assessment, and continuous improvement;
• Collaborate with schools, school districts, community organizations, and other partners to expand experiential learning and professional opportunities for students;
• Maintain an appropriate scholarly agenda consistent with expectations for a tenure-track faculty appointment; and
• Contribute to the college and university's mission through assigned service.

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated excellence in university teaching in traditional and online environments and experience preparing future physical education teachers.

Additional preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate:

• Current or previous PK–12 Physical Education teacher certification, or comparable certification from another state;
• PK-12 teaching experience, preferably in physical education;
• Knowledge of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for Physical Education and Texas educator certification standards;
• Experience preparing candidates for Texas Physical Education teacher certification examinations;
• Experience supervising teacher candidates in field-based or clinical teaching settings;
• Expertise in Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE);
• Experience in adapted physical education or adapted physical activity;
• Ability to teach courses related to sport management;
• Knowledge of contemporary approaches to physical literacy, fitness education, motor skill development, and lifelong physical activity;
• Experience with curriculum development, program assessment, or educator preparation accreditation;
• Professional credentials or experience related to fitness, strength and conditioning, coaching, sport management, or health and wellness; and
• A commitment to developing collaborative relationships with PK–12 schools, community organizations, and other regional partners.

Setting: Texas A&M University-Victoria is the most recent addition to the Texas A&M University System.
