What you'll be doing
Capital Markets Risk Management provides independent oversight across CIBC’s trading businesses to support strong, disciplined risk management. As a Director, Trading Floor Market Risk Management, you’ll provide independent market risk oversight for the Global Equities trading desks. You’ll build a deep understanding of trading and hedging strategies, provide effective challenge to the desks, and perform daily and periodic monitoring of positions, risk, profit and loss (P&L), and capital. You’ll proactively monitor market developments to assess potential risk impacts and partner with the Stress team to enhance stress scenario analysis for the Global Equities business. You’ll support the Head of Trading Market Risk for Global Equities and work closely with risk managers globally to deliver timely, accurate risk and product analysis to senior management. You’ll also lead initiatives to enhance risk measurement, including improvements to internal risk measures and Fundamental Review of the Trading Book (FRTB) capital metrics.
At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You'll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you'll spend 2-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.
How you'll succeed
- Risk oversight and communication - Monitor trading activity, limit utilization, and key risk exposures across the Global Equities trading desks. Ensure timely communication of changes in desk profit and loss (P&L) and risk, and deliver clear, insightful analysis to senior management and other key stakeholders.
- Effective challenge and risk management - Provide effective challenge on trading strategies, positions, and risk management practices. Identify material market risk factors and emerging risk, and apply sound judgment to support strong second line oversight.
- Partnership across functions - Build strong working relationships with partners across Capital Markets Risk, Trading, Finance, Technology, Quantitative Risk, Market Risk Solutions, and Limit Monitoring and Governance. Work collaboratively to improve reporting, processes, and risk transparency.
- Risk framework enhancement - Partner with the Stress team to strengthen scenario analysis and support enhancements to the broader market risk framework for the Global Equities business.
- Measurement and process improvement - Lead initiatives to enhance internal risk measures and FRTB capital metrics. Use your quantitative, database, and coding skills to streamline and automate oversight processes, reporting, and ad hoc analysis.
- Regulatory and market expertise - Maintain deep knowledge of capital markets products, valuation approaches, sensitivities, risk models, and regulatory developments affecting market risk and capital frameworks, with a focus on Global Equities and equity derivatives.
Who you are
- You have deep market risk experience. You bring 7+ years of experience in market risk, trading, or a related risk discipline. You also have strong knowledge of capital markets products, particularly Global Equities, including structured notes, equity exotics, equity options, and equity financing.
- You have the right academic foundation. You hold a degree in Quantitative Finance, Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field. A master’s degree is an asset.
- You are technically strong and analytically minded. You are digitally savvy and embrace innovative solutions, including AI and evolving technologies. You’re comfortable using tools such as Python, SQL, Bloomberg API, and other programming or database platforms. You use data and technology to improve oversight, reporting, and risk analysis.
- Your influence makes a difference. You can translate complex topics into clear, actionable insights for a range of stakeholders. You also have the project leadership skills to drive initiatives across multiple partners.
- You act like an owner. You have strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. You take ownership, show initiative, and consistently deliver high-quality work.
