Professor/Dean of Nursing

Southeastern Louisiana University invites applications for the position of Dean of the College of Nursing. The University seeks an innovative, collaborative, student-centered, and externally engaged academic leader who will advance excellence in nursing education, expand Southeastern’s contribution to Louisiana’s healthcare workforce, and help shape the future of the College.

The Dean serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the College and reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. As a member of the University’s academic leadership team, the Dean provides strategic leadership for academic programs, faculty and staff, enrollment and student success, accreditation, resource stewardship, external partnerships, advancement, and innovation.

The appointment comes at an important moment for Southeastern. The College of Nursing is entering a new era as a focused, standalone academic college, providing the next Dean with the opportunity to build upon strong academic programs, exceptional student outcomes, significant enrollment, and extensive healthcare partnerships while establishing a clear vision for future growth and distinction.

Southeastern Louisiana University is a progressive regional, comprehensive university that enrolls approximately 15,700 graduate and undergraduate students. The University’s home, Hammond, is at the crossroads of Interstates 55 and 12 in the heart of Louisiana’s thriving Northshore, the fastest growing region in the state. It is centrally located within an hour’s drive of New Orleans, Baton Rouge (the state capitol), and the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and affords extensive cultural, recreational, and research opportunities.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
An earned Doctorate in Nursing or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
A current, unencumbered Registered Nursing license and eligibility for licensure in Louisiana.
A record of teaching, scholarship, professional practice, and/or service appropriate for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
Significant progressively responsible academic administrative or leadership experience.
Demonstrated knowledge of nursing accreditation, regulatory standards, program assessment, and professional licensure requirements.
Experience with academic budgeting, personnel management, and resource allocation.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, institutional leaders, and external partners.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Particular consideration will be given to candidates with demonstrated success in several of the following areas:
Leadership of a college, school, department, or major academic nursing program.
Strategic planning and organizational change.
Undergraduate and graduate nursing education.
Enrollment growth and strategic program development.
Student recruitment, retention, progression, graduation, and licensure success.
Clinical and healthcare-system partnerships.
Faculty recruitment, retention, mentorship, and development.
CCNE accreditation and state regulatory processes.
Graduate and doctoral program development.
Online, hybrid, accelerated, or alternative educational pathways.
Simulation, digital health, healthcare technology, or artificial intelligence.
Grants, contracts, philanthropy, or other external resource development.
Workforce development and community engagement.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS
Knowledge of relevant accreditation, curriculum, and program development processes applicable to the various disciplines within the college

Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with department heads, faculty, staff, and other deans and administrators at all levels within the college and University
