St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is excited to announce that we are now accepting applications for the next cohort of our Nurse Residency Program.

Our Nurse Residency Program is an intensive, integrative, and collaborative approach to preparing new graduate nurses to lead in the advancement of nursing care for children, adolescents, and young adults through innovation, expansion of evidence-based practice, and the global sharing of knowledge.

What to expect 
Through a comprehensive blend of didactic and simulation content, our twelve-month curriculum ensures that new graduate nurses have the comfort and confidence to excel in their new role as a Pediatric Oncology Nurse at St. Jude.  

Our program is unique, offering unrivaled support for new nurses as they begin their journey to practice: 

Not licensed yet? We can help! Our unique model allows new graduates to join the program before they're licensed, and we provide extensive support to help you prepare for the NCLEX including study materials, designated study time, and group test-prep. And--of course--all the high fives you can handle the day you pass. 

Not sure which department is for you? No problem. The program begins with a six week rotation through all of our nursing service lines where you'll have the opportunity to experience and explore nursing roles in our Inpatient Units, Outpatient Clinics, and Nursing Surgical Services. Rotations culminate in a Match Day celebration where you'll match with your new team!

Graduate nurse salary: $33.08/hour

Requirements 

Minimum Education: 

Open to new or upcoming BSN graduates who are transitioning from school to patient care. To participate, candidates must have completed their BSN program before this cohort begins in January 2027. 

• BSN required

• Basic Life Support (BLS) required 

• 3.2 GPA minimum preferred, but 3.5 GPA or above is highly preferred

Tips for Documents: 

Unsure about your reference letter? Stumped by the personal statement? Read on for helpful tips on making your supporting documents shine.

-Resume: a resume can include your previous work history as well as degrees, licenses, etc.

-An unofficial copy of college transcripts: We strongly prefer candidates who have a GPA of 3.2 or higher, but don’t let this be a deterrent. We understand that each applicant is unique, and a GPA is just one aspect of a passionate, multi-dimensional, talented nurse. Just make sure that if your GPA is lower than a 3.2, you take extra care to show us what makes you an excellent candidate. 

-Reference letter: An important rule of thumb with reference letters is that quality trumps credentials when it comes to your references. Many candidates make the mistake of thinking that a letter from the dean or president of your school will be the most impressive in an application, but if they don’t know you and your work well, the result is usually a brief, generic letter, which is no recommendation at all. Seek out leaders from your professional or education journey who know you, your work, and your passions personally, someone who will take the time to draft a recommendation that truly highlights why you would be the best candidate for a position. When your reference believes in you, it shows. 

-Personal Statement or Cover Letter: I like to think of your resume as a black and white account of your experience and skills, and the cover letter or personal statement as an opportunity to add a little color. Let this be the opportunity to show us how your personal mission aligns with ours! Don’t fall into the trap of letting us know you’re “a qualified candidate interested in the posted role at your prestigious hospital” (hint: We know. That’s why we’re here.), and while we’re on the subject, please avoid using generic terms like “at your prestigious hospital.” Take the time to write out the name of the place you’re applying, otherwise it gives the appearance that we’re just one of a dozen places you’ve applied and sent the same letter to. Last but not least, please pay attention to the word count. It shows that you pay attention to detail and respect others’ time.

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $31.50 - $55.00 per hour for the role of Graduate Nurse.
