Schedule:

4/10 schedule - Monday-Thursday 8:30 AM - 6:30 PM

Requirement:

Currently registered with the State of Wisconsin Registry for Nursing Assistants/Home Health Aides or equivalent. OR completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, or LPN or other licensed health care professional with same and/or expanded scope of practice such as an EMT or Paramedic. Certified Nursing Assistant certifications are not required to be renewed after hire.

Job Summary

Provides general support for the Child Advocacy Center. Acts as a receptionist and a resource person for the clinic. Collaborates with the CAC team and the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) to schedule appointments based on urgency and patient service needs. Coordinates appointments with families and schedules tests as ordered by a medical provider. Performs data entry to maintain current patient records, complete referral authorizations, and complete grant reporting requirements. Performs patient care duties under the supervision of a registered nurse and/or nurse practitioner. Supports the medical provider during evaluations which includes engaging in child life activities by providing trauma informed support for children. Provides additional support in the waiting room to ensure each child receives high quality care and supervision to feel comfortable and safe.

Essential Functions

- Maintains patient confidentiality.
- Displays an awareness of child maltreatment dynamics and conditions.
- Interacts effectively with all patients and their caregivers, departments, and Multidisciplinary Team Members (MDT) to triage and schedule appointments. Provides full attention to our customers while obtaining complete and accurate registration and insurance information utilizing best practice guidelines and efficient computer skills.
- Maintains appropriate clinic flow and monitors patient location and wait time.
- Performs delegated patient care activities under the direction of a registered nurse or nurse practitioner. Assists RN, physician, and/or nurse practitioner with treatments/procedures as directed. Patient care activities may include routine vital signs/monitoring, supervision in the exam room, basic safety procedures, and child life activities.
- Supports the use of comfort measures and utilizes age-appropriate skills such as procedural support, relaxation, and distraction during medical evaluations.
- Maintains patients’ schedules for new and follow-up clinic visits and any ordered diagnostic testing in Epic. Enters levels of care for clinic visits, as well as orders and diagnoses as ordered by medical providers in Epic within time standards established.
- Identifies insurance issues and directs caregivers to Financial Representatives when potential pay problems are identified.
- Advises parent/patients of the necessity of obtaining a referral prior to clinic appointment.
- Provides clerical support to the Child Advocacy Center. Answers and directs telephone calls, opens, sorts and routes incoming mail, produces light correspondence as needed.

Legacy Essential Functions

- Measures, documents and appropriately reports observations made of patients or families. Any deviations or changes are verbally reported to the RN or nurse practitioner and documented in the patient’s medical record (co-signed by the RN or nurse practitioner).
- May perform waived and/or PPM (Physician Performed Microscopy) testing per established policies.
- Supports the Child Advocacy Center by maintaining cleanliness in the clinic rooms, equipment, waiting room, kitchen, patient care areas, supply area and the department in general. Reports any deficiencies or unsafe equipment to the RN, nurse practitioner, or manager immediately.

Education:

- High School graduate or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) Requires successful completion of high school education or equivalent. required

Experience:

- Experience working with families of diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds strongly preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

- Knowledge of basic medical terminology to understand ordering procedures for various patient tests, treatments, and medications.
- Basic computer and keyboarding experience and skills.
- Possess and competently demonstrates core patient care skills as outlined in the skills competency checklist. Understands role of performing delegated acts.
- Possess effective interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interact courteously and tactfully with patients, parents/families and members of the health care team.
- Possess rudimentary assessment and analytical skills in order to perform basic patient observations.
- Organizational skills necessary to perform multiple tasks including maintaining records, coordinating clinic appointments, and prioritizing other work independently.
- Ability to sit up to 75% of the time. Ability to walk and stand for up to 75% of the work time and to occasionally squat/bend/kneel, lift/carry, pull/push weights of approximately 40 lbs. May occasionally reach overhead.

Licenses and Certifications:

- BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council required
