DISTRIBUTION CENTER BUYER JOB DESCRIPTION
DEPARTMENT: Distribution Center
REPORTS TO: Distribution Center Director
SUPERVISES: None
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
PAY GRADE: Level 3
JOB SUMMARY:
The Distribution Center (DC) Buyer is responsible for managing all buying, inventory control, promotional planning, pricing and margin for multiple fresh categories plus the customer sales support necessary to satisfy and grow sales with current and future customers. Additional buying as assigned plus sales support which includes order processing and warehouse work which may include pulling and receiving orders.
The DC Buyer will also have in-depth knowledge about La Montañita Food Cooperative and its products/services offered to address questions as well as provide the full customer service cycle to ensure complete satisfaction.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Purchase product lines and manage inventory level.
- Communicate with distribution team and drivers to support customer satisfaction throughout the customer experience.
- Support other sales staff in their efforts.
- At times will be asked to prepare orders by processing requests: pull accurate materials and place in appropriate area for pick up or delivery; loading and unloading trucks as necessary.
- Establish, maintain and promote high standards of customer service.
- Report involvement in any accidents or injuries to management.
- Attend various events to identify potential sales leads and make meaningful contact with existing customers.
- At times may be called upon to assist the distribution team through various avenues in an effort to improve overall operations and customer experience.
- Complete reports and projects determined necessary by the Distribution Center Director related to the sales and budgets as needed.
- Communicate with co-workers, management, customers, members, and others in a courteous and professional manner.
- Other responsibilities and tasks as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (includes education, skills and experience):
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of 3 years buying experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; actively listen and get clarification; write clearly and informatively; read and interpret information accurately.
- Ability to multi-task, and be flexible in completing job duties while adhering to deadlines.
- Excellent degree of accuracy and attention to detail with the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to work flexible schedule (weekday/weekend and daytime/evening shifts as needed).
- Demonstrate good interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills and able to communicate with individuals of diverse background.
- Ability to adhere and follow safety and wellness guidelines. Safety Conscious and adhering to required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is required.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORTS:
- Ability to repeatedly lift and move up to 50 pounds.
- Repetitive hand and arm motions and prolonged periods of sitting and driving.
- Regularly require to stand, walk, talk, listen, and reach with hands and arms.
- Often required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Requires frequent manual dexterity in combination with eye/hand coordination such as keyboarding.
- Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- Exposure to wet, humid and cold conditions (weather and non-weather)
- Must be able to work in refrigerated spaces.
- Fumes or airborne particles ranging from natural to chemical.
- The noise level in the work environment ranges from low to moderate; yet can occasionally be loud.
- Must be able to work mornings, afternoon, evenings, nights and weekends as needed.
