Job Duties:

The Teaching Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Education contributes to the preparation of future educators by delivering high-quality instruction in early childhood education at the undergraduate and graduate levels. This position plays a key role in ensuring program excellence and student success through teaching, supervision, and engagement in professional development and service. 

Using expertise in early childhood education pedagogy, the Teaching Assistant Professor develops and teaches courses in areas such as kindergarten teaching methods, infant and toddler education, literature for early childhood, and creative curriculum methods. Responsibilities also include supervising student teachers in early childhood education placements, incorporating equitable and socially just approaches to instruction, and utilizing both in-person and online modalities. 

The person in this role maintains a scholarly and/or professional development agenda aligned with rank and discipline, engages in ongoing learning related to inclusive pedagogy and curricular innovation, and participates in regional travel for student supervision and professional collaboration. Additional responsibilities include advising students in academic and career planning, building partnerships with local school systems, and contributing to School of Education, college, and university committees and initiatives.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to the strategic development of curriculum and academic content through various mediums to ensure the integrity of the educational mission of the work unit
  • Contributes to the development of teaching and learning scholarly work including publications and presentations
  • Collaborates with department faculty and staff to develop teaching strategies relevant to the discipline
  • Advises students on academic and career direction within a specific field of study
  • Develops and designs curriculum and instructional material relevant to a course of instruction
  • May supervise student employees involved in development or delivery of instruction
  • Facilitates classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction, including assessment of student performance

Compensation:

The Teaching Assistant Professor of Early Education is a full-time, salaried, exempt, academic year (9-month), instructional academic staff position. Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting salary of at least $56,000 and commensurate with the candidate’s education, related experience, and qualifications. Relocation assistance may be available.

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned master’s degree in early childhood education or closely related field.
  • Previously or currently licensed early childhood education teacher
  • Minimum of three years of full-time PK teaching experience
  • Experience with online and in-person college level instruction
  • Experience with teaching strategies, curricular adaptations, and methodology at early childhood and elementary levels.
  • A demonstrated commitment to build relationships with students and colleagues.
  • High-quality communication and interpersonal skills with diverse populations
  • Clearly articulated scholarly and/or professional development agenda and record consistent with rank at the time of hire.
  • Ability to work well in a faculty team setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) or ABD candidate in early childhood education or closely related field.
  • Willingness to travel regionally (eligible to obtain a valid WI driver’s license).
  • Experience mentoring, coaching, and providing feedback to student/intern pre-service teachers or in-service teachers.
  • Experience in collaborative and/or inclusionary settings.
  • Commitment to participation in or development of equitable, diverse, inclusive, and socially just learning environments.
