Overview

East Penn is currently seeking someone to work as a Temporary Paralegal/Legal Assistant to support a small sized legal department in general practice areas of commercial contracts, lease review, real estate sales and purchases as well as identification of and preparation of company documents for outside counsel. 

The Paralegal/Legal Assistant will be responsible for the support of multiple business functions in establishing, coordinating, and maintaining a library of relevant company information across multiple departments which is used to complete customer surveys, regulatory questionnaires, sustainability reports etc.  

The Paralegal/Legal Assistant will complete the first draft of all such surveys and questionnaires where requested.  These requests often have legal implications and must be evaluated appropriately under the supervision of business heads as well as counsel.

There is an opportunity for this temporary position to go full-time.  

Responsibilities

  • Acts as liaison among internal and external parties for scheduling and sharing information
  • Organizes and manages documents, including the creation of spreadsheets, file and retrieval systems
  • Investigates case facts and compiles factual support for company position
  • Searches public records and other resources
  • Conducts basic research on relevant laws, regulations, and legal articles
  • Coordinates the collection, review, and production of documents and responding to discovery requests
  • Reviews legal documents and correspondence to facilitate counsel review
  • Organizes and maintains documents in paper or electronic filing systems
  • Compiles information, prepares statistics, charts, graphs, and other summaries to detail the findings
  • Prepares and interprets legal documents including interrogatory responses, agreements, and real estate documents

 

Qualifications

  • Associates degree, required; Bachelor’s degree, preferred
  • Certificate of completion from an ABA-approved paralegal certification program of education and training
  • A combination of equivalent level of education, training and experience may be considered
  •  2-3 years of significant and substantive experience as a paralegal/legal assistant required
  • Working knowledge of database software (Microsoft Access or other), preferred
  • Previous experience managing medium scale document productions
  • Ability to follow direction and procedures
  • Maintains a high level of integrity; respects the confidentiality of information that the position is exposed to
  • Advanced investigative, research, information collection, and information management skills
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to analyze problems and strategize solutions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including presentation abilities
  • Self-motivated and self-directed; can effectively cope with ambiguity
  • Proficient in multi-tasking, prioritizing time-sensitive documents and managing time effectively to meet deadlines
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills; a team player with ability to work collaboratively and effectively across functional areas and all levels of the organization
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, (Outlook, Word, and Excel)
