Position Summary...

Drives the execution of multiple business plans and projects by identifying customer and operational needs; developing and communicating business plans and priorities; removing barriers and obstacles that impact performance; providing resources; identifying performance standards; measuring progress and adjusting performance accordingly; developing contingency plans; and demonstrating adaptability and supporting continuous learning. Provides supervision and development opportunities for associates by selecting and training; mentoring; assigning duties; building a team-based work environment; establishing performance expectations and conducting regular performance evaluations; providing recognition and rewards; coaching for success and improvement; and promoting a belonging mindset in the workplace. Promotes and supports company policies, procedures, mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity by training and providing direction to others in their use and application; ensuring compliance with them; and utilizing and supporting the Open Door Policy. Ensures business needs are being met by evaluating the ongoing effectiveness of current plans, programs, and initiatives; consulting with business partners, managers, co-workers, or other key stakeholders; soliciting, evaluating, and applying suggestions for improving efficiency and cost-effectiveness; and participating in and supporting community outreach events.

About the Team

As a member of the Catalog Engineering team, you will play a key role in building scalable, resilient, and high-performing systems that power how suppliers and sellers create, manage, and enrich catalog content across our global marketplace.

We are looking for engineers who are curious, adaptable, and passionate about solving complex technical problems. You'll work on large-scale distributed systems, influence technical strategy, and help build intelligent solutions that improve the seller experience and drive business impact.

What You'll Do

  • Partner with product and engineering teams to understand complex business problems and translate them into scalable technology solutions.
  • Lead the architecture, design, development, and deployment of highly scalable, resilient, and secure distributed systems.
  • Drive engineering excellence by establishing best practices for software design, code quality, testing, observability, reliability, and operational excellence.
  • Own technical decision-making across multiple services and influence architecture beyond your immediate team.
  • Estimate engineering effort, identify technical risks, and drive execution of large cross-functional initiatives.
  • Mentor and coach engineers, provide technical leadership, conduct design/code reviews, and foster a culture of continuous learning.
  • Identify long-term technical opportunities, simplify complex systems, and proactively address architectural challenges.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends in Java, distributed systems, cloud computing, and AI-assisted software development.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 12+ years of software engineering experience building enterprise-scale products, preferably in product companies or R&D organizations.
  • Strong computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, operating systems, networking, and object-oriented design.
  • Extensive experience designing and building scalable, highly available distributed systems.
  • 6+ years of hands-on experience developing microservices using Java and Spring Boot.
  • Strong expertise in Java, JVM internals, multithreading, concurrency, and performance optimization.
  • Deep understanding of RESTful APIs, Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), and event-driven architectures.
  • Strong experience with relational and NoSQL databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MongoDB, Cassandra, HBase, or Cosmos DB.
  • Experience with cloud-native application development on public cloud platforms such as Azure, GCP, or AWS.
  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, observability, monitoring, logging, and production support best practices.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills with the ability to influence technical direction across teams.
  • Proven experience mentoring engineers and driving technical excellence within engineering organizations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with messaging and stream processing technologies such as Kafka.
  • Experience with search and storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Hive, Hadoop, or Cassandra.
  • Experience with GraphQL and modern frontend technologies such as React.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted software development tools and modern engineering productivity practices.
  • Experience building global-scale eCommerce, catalog, marketplace, or supply chain platforms.
