About the role

We are looking for a Shut Down Planner to manage shutdown work requests, oversee the backlog in SAP, plan work orders, procure materials, and prioritize and schedule tasks to maximize process up time.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced technical leader to play a critical role in developing and maintaining comprehensive shutdown schedules, including capital projects, in coordination with maintenance teams, external resources, and other stakeholders while focuses on minimizing material costs and optimizing the use of contract services.

About the role

Reporting to the Maintenance & Reliability Manager and working in a collaborative community, a challenging and exciting environment, you will:

  • Champion safety within the maintenance department by actively supporting site safety programs and initiatives. Ensure full compliance with safety regulations, industrial hygiene standards, security/CTPAT requirements, and environmental policies while promoting a strong safety culture.

  • Proactively identify and address unsafe acts, behaviors, and conditions to minimize risk and protect the health and safety of all personnel.

  • Conduct Life Critical Audits and routine safety compliance reviews. Investigate findings, address gaps, and drive continuous improvement in safety performance and practices.

  • Coordinate contractor requirements and maintenance resources, ensuring timely scheduling of equipment, personnel, and parts to support operational needs.

  • Develop and manage preventive and corrective maintenance plans in accordance with plant procedures, engineering standards, and applicable national codes. Utilize SAP and design databases to obtain and maintain equipment information.

  • Review, prioritize, and schedule maintenance requests; manage work order completion and closeout activities; and maintain the maintenance backlog in collaboration with other planners.

  • Develop and maintain shutdown calendars and schedules, facilitate shutdown planning and daily review meetings, and oversee contractor activities to ensure successful execution of shutdown events.

  • Participate in cross-functional initiatives to optimize plant-managed expenditures. Identify and implement strategies to reduce maintenance costs while enhancing equipment reliability, performance, and safety.

  • Support site and divisional quality objectives by participating in quality initiatives, representing the maintenance function in quality meetings, and assisting with internal and external audits.

  • Communicate critical maintenance priorities and business activities to management to ensure appropriate resource allocation and achievement of production objectives.

  • Coordinate and supervise contractors across multiple trades during routine operations and shutdowns, ensuring compliance with safety standards, quality expectations, and project timelines.

  • Leverage SAP MRP to maintain maintenance plans, materials master data, and equipment records. Prepare cost estimates for labor, materials, and supplies required for planned maintenance activities.

About you

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with five years of chemical process maintenance experience and general knowledge of plant systems, processes, and procedures, or

  • Associate’s degree with three years of maintenance or project planning experience.

  • Basic working knowledge of the Materials Management and Production Planning modules in SAP.

  • Proficiency in Excel and Word Processing software (Microsoft Office, including Access).

  • Willingness to learn Microsoft Project.
