Description

Saint Anselm College, a private, liberal arts college in the Benedictine tradition, is seeking a dynamic Deputy Director for the New Hampshire Institute of Politics (NHIOP).  Reporting to the Executive Director of the NHIOP, the Deputy Director oversees the strategic, financial, supervisory, communications, and institutional leadership responsibilities.

Programming, Communication and External Relations

  • Identify strategic programming and funding opportunities
  • Manage the overall planning, coordination and oversight of Institute programming including program selections to ensure quality and consistency while considering Institute priorities and coordinating with campus and community partners
  • Oversee the Institute's public relations, branding, and communications, including press releases, Institute speeches, and newsletters while maintaining quality, tone, and consistency
  • Manage speaker, special guests and donor recruitment, invitations, and correspondence to ensure a continued partnership and a positive guest experience
  • Build and maintain relationships with authors, journalists, elected officials, publishers, community partners, special guests and vendors
  • Coordinate the publication of Survey Center poll releases and materials, including press releases, reports, media advisories, website content, and social media
  • Plan special events and programs in conjunction with Institute team
  • Execute special projects as assigned by the Executive Director
  • Maintain records of Institute traditions, events, policies, operating protocols, reference materials, exhibits, polling history, institutional archives and historical collections

Leadership & Staff Supervision

  • Provide direct supervision and performance management of the Program Assistant
  • Oversee work planning, prioritization, and delegation of all Institute administrative responsibilities
  • Coordinate administrative support between the Institute and the Politics Department (as managed by the faculty department chair and the Program Assistant)
  • Oversee student interns and student intern projects with assistance from the Program Assistant

Financial Management & Oversight

  • Oversee the Institutes financial planning and forecasting of the annual operating expenses, budget development and monitoring and reporting and analysis
  • Execute and monitor polling budgets, contracts, and consultant payments 
  • Partner with the Finance Office on Institute finances and budgeting

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, along with a minimum of seven to ten years of experience in the area of public relations/communications, business and/or politics
  • Highly motivated self-starter who takes initiative and is driven to achieve results
  • Ability to collaborate with campus partners and external agencies and constituencies organizing and implementing Institute events and programs
  • Attention to detail, strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Demonstrated experience in brand management, public relations and strategic communications in a higher education, civic, nonprofit, public policy or political environment. 
  • Supervisory and/or management experience with demonstrated ability to foster a collaborative team environment
  • Enthusiastic, reliable team player with a commitment to excellence in customer service and professionalism
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Budget experience preferred but not necessary
  • Availability to work occasional evening and weekend hours for special programs or events
