Description of Work

Murdoch Developmental Center is a 24/7 state residential facility located in Butner, NC, near the Research Triangle area. Murdoch serves individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD). Murdoch is a caring community where professionals work with people of various ages, cognitive and functional abilities. To be considered for employment, applicants must be in good standing with the North Carolina Personnel Health Care Registry. The primary purpose of the Plant Maintenance Section is to ensure the successful operation of the physical plant and facility infrastructure. Carpentry is responsible for requisition and procurement of materials, project management, and construction of new structures. This position is responsible for all aspects of building maintenance, including the renovation, repair, and functional alteration of 600,000 square feet of building space. Work assignments also include tasks such as door adjustments, lock repair and installation, cabinetry, furniture repair, pouring and finishing concrete, masonry, vinyl and ceramic tile replacement and installation, roofing, and fabrication of adaptive items for Murdoch Center’s clients. Work performed by carpentry maintenance staff involves the use of hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment. Work is reviewed by a supervisor through inspection of completed work for quality and compliance with work orders.

This Position Is Designated As Mandatory And Must Report Or Stay Over During Adverse Weather Events.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Recruitment Range: $35,596.00 - $62,294.00 

The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

• Some experience in carpentry work or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Some skill in the use of tools, materials and equipment commonly used in the performance of carpentry work 
• Valid Driver’s License
• Experience in commercial/industrial maintenance environment 
• 2 years’ experience in carpentry work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements: ADA-Heavy Work

This Position Is Designated As Mandatory And Must Report Or Stay Over During Adverse Weather Events.

Work schedule is 7:00am to 3:30pm with a half hour lunch, Monday through Friday.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one (1) year of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualification May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.
