As a Journey-Level Marine Technician based in Salmon Bay, you will perform diagnostics, repairs, and performance verification on diesel and gasoline marine engines supporting commercial, government, and mission-critical vessels. You will operate independently in the field, represent MSHS PPG professionally at customer sites, and focus on quality workmanship, safety, and reliability.

You will be home nightly, work a consistent weekday schedule, and have access to manufacturer training to continue advancing your technical skill set.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Diagnose, inspect, and repair marine diesel and gasoline propulsion systems
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and electronic engine issues using OEM diagnostic tools
• Perform maintenance, component replacements, and overhauls in accordance with manufacturer standards
• Conduct sea trials and post-repair testing to verify performance and reliability
• Complete warranty repairs and evaluate service and parts options for cost-effective solutions
• Accurately document service work, findings, and recommendations using digital systems
• Communicate clearly and professionally with customers on site regarding repairs and next steps
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment and service vehicle
• Follow all MSHS PPG safety, environmental, and operational standards
• Participate in required manufacturer training, online and in person

Who This Role Is a Great Fit For

• Marine technicians currently working on commercial, workboat, or mixed-fleet vessels
• Technicians with diesel or gasoline engine backgrounds looking for stable, local marine work
• Field service technicians who enjoy troubleshooting and hands-on problem solving
• Technicians who want technical ownership without people management responsibilities

Required Qualifications

• 2 or more years of hands-on experience diagnosing, servicing, and repairing marine diesel and gasoline engine systems
• Experience working on marine propulsion systems in commercial, workboat, or mixed-fleet environments
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
• Ability to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and technical documentation
• Proficiency with computer-based diagnostic tools for troubleshooting and service documentation
• Ability to work independently in a field environment with minimal supervision
• Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured under company policy
• Own a complete set of mechanic’s tools, metric and SAE
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work indoors or outdoors in varying conditions
• Willingness to complete manufacturer training, online and in person
• Ability to pass background check and drug screening

Desired Skills and Experience

• Experience with major marine engine platforms such as Cummins, MTU, Volvo Penta, Detroit Diesel, CAT, Yanmar, or equivalent systems
• Experience with both inboard and outboard marine engines
• Familiarity with electronic engine controls, ECMs, and diesel engine management systems
• Experience conducting sea trials and post-repair performance verification
• Prior field service or customer-facing technician experience
• Washington State Boater’s Card
• Technical or vocational training in marine mechanics, diesel technology, or a related field
• Background in power generation, heavy equipment, or industrial diesel engines with marine crossover exposure
