Data Business Analyst – Data Analytics & Governance
Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Contract: 6 Months (Highly Renewable)
Role Overview
We are seeking a Data Business Analyst to support our client's data-driven transformation programme. The role combines Business Analysis, SQL/Data Analytics, Data Management, Governance and Stakeholder Management, with exposure to Risk, Cybersecurity and Generative AI.
Key Responsibilities

Gather and analyse business requirements from stakeholders and translate them into BRDs, functional requirements and requirement traceability documentation.

Investigate business problems at root-cause level and use SQL/data analysis to validate and challenge requirements.

Perform AS-IS / TO-BE process mapping, gap analysis and process improvement.

Work closely with business, data, technology and delivery teams to ensure solutions meet requirements.

Define test scenarios, acceptance criteria and UAT requirements and support testing activities.

Analyse large datasets and data warehouses to identify trends, issues and data-quality gaps.

Develop/support standardised data analytics and visualisation tools using Tableau, MicroStrategy, Power BI or similar.

Present data-driven insights and recommendations to stakeholders.

Support Data Governance, Risk/Cybersecurity governance forums, change management and transition from project delivery to BAU.

Support strategic data requirements, data quality initiatives and remediation programmes.

Identify opportunities to apply Generative AI, LLMs and Agentic AI to data analysis and business processes.
Requirements
-
Proven experience as a Business Analyst, Data Business Analyst or Data Analyst in a large-scale environment.

Strong hands-on SQL, data analysis and data management experience.

Experience with data warehouses, large-scale data platforms and data quality.

Strong experience in requirements gathering, BRD, process mapping and stakeholder management.

Experience with AS-IS/TO-BE, Agile/Waterfall SDLC and UAT.

Strong data visualisation and storytelling skills using Tableau, MicroStrategy, Power BI or similar.

Experience with Databricks is preferred.

Exposure to banking, financial services, Risk, Fraud, Cybersecurity or Financial Crime is highly advantageous.

Basic understanding of Generative AI, LLMs and Agentic AI.

Excellent communication, presentation, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills.

Strong attention to detail, governance and audit readiness.
