MedRVA Healthcare is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to join our finance team. The Staff Accountant will support day-to-day accounting functions and play an important role in month-end close, account reconciliations, financial reporting, accounts payable, and maintaining accurate financial records. This position is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys working in a hands-on environment, investigating discrepancies, improving processes, and supporting management with timely and accurate financial information.

Salary Range
$60,000 to $70,000
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with the monthly and year-end financial close process for all entities.
- Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepaid expenses, allocations, and other recurring entries.
- Prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
- Assist in preparing monthly income statements, balance sheets, and other financial reports.
- Review general ledger activity for accuracy, appropriate classification, and unusual variances.
- Support accounts payable, including invoice review, coding, payment processing, and vendor account reconciliation.
- Assist with bank and cash reconciliations and research reconciling items.
- Maintain schedules for fixed assets, depreciation, prepaid expenses, accruals, and other balance sheet accounts.
- Assist with healthcare-related revenue and contractual adjustment reconciliations.
- Analyze actual financial results compared with budget and prior-year performance.
- Assist with the annual budgeting and forecasting process.
- Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for annual audits, tax preparation, and other financial reviews.
- Assist with accounting and reporting for multiple entities, departments, and locations.
- Help maintain strong internal controls and accurate supporting documentation.
- Identify accounting discrepancies and work with appropriate departments to resolve issues.
- Assist management with special projects, financial analysis, and process-improvement initiatives.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial, employee, physician, and organizational information.
- Perform other accounting and finance duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent relevant accounting experience.
- Understanding of basic accounting principles, including debits and credits, accrual accounting, and financial statements.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet monthly deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including formulas, data analysis, and spreadsheets.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Preferred
- 1-3 years of accounting or finance experience.
- Experience with month-end close and general ledger accounting.
- Healthcare, ambulatory surgery center, physician practice, or other medical-industry accounting experience.
- Experience working with multiple entities or locations.
- Experience with accounting/ERP and financial reporting systems.
- Experience supporting financial statement audits.
Knowledge and Skills
- Understand the relationship between the general ledger, income statement, and balance sheet.
- Research account discrepancies and determine appropriate corrective action.
- Prepare accurate reconciliations with clear supporting documentation.
- Analyze financial information and recognize unusual trends or transactions.
- Work effectively with both financial and non-financial departments.
- Maintain accuracy while working within month-end and year-end deadlines.
- Handle confidential financial information with professionalism and discretion.
