Description
Overview
Complex Assembly FAI Specialist
Verify, Inc. | Onsite – Evendale, OH
$55–$60/hr | Full-time, 24-month Contract, Temp-to-Perm with Verify.
The Opportunity
Our client, a major aerospace engine manufacturer, is expanding its First Article Inspection (FAI) support for complex engine assemblies and subassemblies across both existing and upcoming configurations. Much of the work happens before an engine ever reaches the assembly floor: tracing requirements from the drawings through manufacturing planning so every characteristic is accounted for and the FAI documentation is accurate and complete.
This is a role for a hands-on technical mind — someone who understands how complex assemblies actually get built and enjoys following a requirement across linked drawings, specifications, parts lists, and operation sheets. Ballooning drawings is one piece of the job; the real value is the detailed technical review behind it. You'll work independently, ask sharp questions when something is ambiguous, and take pride in accuracy and traceability.
What You Must Bring
- A background in quality engineering, manufacturing engineering, assembly planning, or equivalent hands-on experience with complex mechanical assemblies — you know how they're built, not just how they're drawn.
- Ability to read multi-sheet assembly drawings, bills of material, drawing notes, specifications, and detailed work instructions — and follow linked drawings and referenced specs across the full assembly hierarchy.
- Practical understanding of assembly processes — fasteners, torque, lubrication, component installation, safety wire, and dimensional requirements.
- Ability to compare engineering requirements against manufacturing instructions, recognize discrepancies, and work with engineering and planning to resolve them.
- Strong Excel and computer skills, with comfort organizing large volumes of technical data and learning customer software and workflows quickly.
- Meticulous documentation, revision tracking, and follow-through — you can manage iterative reviews without losing requirement traceability.
- Clear technical communication and the self-direction to work independently.
What Sets a Great Candidate Apart
- Experience with aerospace engines, gas turbines, or similarly complex mechanical assemblies and subassemblies.
- Experience preparing or reviewing assembly FAI documentation and characteristic accountability.
- Familiarity with DISCUS, Excel-based FAI documentation, Teamcenter or similar product lifecycle management systems, and manufacturing execution systems (MES).
- Experience supporting drawing and planning changes in collaboration with manufacturing, quality, and engineering teams.
What You'll Actually Do
- Perform detailed print-to-plan reviews, comparing product definition against parts lists, bills of material, MES consumption records, and assembly planning.
- Verify part number references, component quantities, torque and lubricant requirements, safety wire, dimensions, locations, drawing notes, and specification requirements against the applicable assembly operations.
- Use DISCUS to balloon drawings and prepare characteristic data and output files for FAI upload per customer guidance.
- Build and maintain Excel characteristic accountability records that connect drawing requirements to planning, controls, and verification evidence.
- Coordinate with customer planning and engineering to confirm clarifications and approved updates, and keep records current as changes are approved.
- Maintain traceability of requirements, revisions, open items, and supporting records.
- Submit deliverables for customer review, incorporate feedback, and communicate progress and decisions needed.
- Support assembly-floor FAI execution as assigned, connecting upfront preparation to product verification.
Requirements
- Ability to work onsite in Evendale, OH — this is an in-person role.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Aerospace & Defense Manufacturing and/or Quality
- Demonstrated quality engineering, manufacturing engineering, assembly planning, or equivalent hands-on experience with complex mechanical assemblies.
- Ability to interpret multi-sheet assembly drawings, bills of material, and work instructions.
- Strong Excel and computer skills.
- Ability to work occasional swing shifts, second shifts, or weekends during assembly-floor FAI activities (approximately 10% of the assignment). These hours apply only to floor FAI work, follow no recurring schedule, and do not apply to prework. Scheduling flexibility will be considered where feasible.
