Reports To: New Product Development Manager / Engineering Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (subject to classification review)
Position Summary
Sea Fox Boats is seeking a skilled, detail-oriented, and motivated New Product Technician to support the development, assembly, testing, and implementation of new boat models and product enhancements.
This position plays a key role in bringing new boat designs from concept to production by working closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Production teams. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, hands-on boat-building experience, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assist with the development, fabrication, assembly, and modification of new boat models and prototypes.
Work closely with Engineering and Production teams to support new product launches and design improvements.
Install, assemble, and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural components on prototype vessels.
Interpret and follow engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and technical instructions.
Identify potential design, fitment, assembly, and manufacturing issues during prototype development.
Recommend improvements to enhance product quality, functionality, manufacturability, and efficiency.
Perform modifications and adjustments to fiberglass components, hardware, consoles, interiors, and other boat systems.
Assist in testing and evaluating new materials, components, equipment, and manufacturing processes.
Document prototype builds, design changes, technical issues, and recommended corrective actions.
Collaborate with Quality Control to ensure new products meet company standards and specifications.
Support the transition of new boat models from development into full-scale production.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and quality standards.
Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required.
Previous experience in boat manufacturing, marine assembly, fabrication, or a related manufacturing environment preferred.
Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on troubleshooting abilities.
Knowledge of boat construction, fiberglass components, mechanical systems, and assembly processes.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, measurements, and assembly instructions.
Experience using hand tools, power tools, and manufacturing equipment.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
Ability to identify problems, develop solutions, and adapt to changing project requirements.
Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in new product development, research and development (R&D), or prototype manufacturing.
Experience with center-console boat construction and assembly.
Familiarity with marine electrical systems, plumbing, rigging, and hardware installation.
Fiberglass fabrication, lamination, or gel coat experience.
Knowledge of manufacturing processes and continuous improvement practices.
Experience collaborating with engineering teams on product modifications or new model launches.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach for extended periods.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently, with assistance or lifting equipment for heavier items.
Ability to work in confined or restricted areas within boats when necessary.
Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and manufacturing equipment.
Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, fiberglass materials, and varying temperatures.
Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
