WVU Medicine is seeking a Pediatric Neurologist to join the growing neurosciences program at Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg, West Virginia. This position represents an opportunity to expand access to pediatric neurological care for children and families throughout the Eastern Panhandle and surrounding regions while contributing to the continued development of pediatric neuroscience services within WVU Medicine.
The successful candidate will provide comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and longitudinal management of children and adolescents with a broad range of neurological conditions. The position will primarily focus on outpatient pediatric neurology while also providing inpatient neurological consultation and supporting collaboration across the regional healthcare system.
This is an excellent opportunity for a physician interested in helping develop and grow pediatric neurology services within an expanding regional neuroscience program while maintaining connectivity to the broader clinical and academic resources of WVU Medicine.
Position Responsibilities
The Pediatric Neurologist will:
- Provide comprehensive inpatient/outpatient pediatric neurological evaluation and management.
- Diagnose and manage common and complex neurological conditions affecting infants, children, and adolescents.
- Provide pediatric neurology consultation for hospitalized patients as clinically appropriate.
- Develop longitudinal care plans in collaboration with patients, families, referring providers, and multidisciplinary clinical teams.
- Establish strong referral relationships with pediatricians, family medicine physicians, emergency medicine providers, and other specialists throughout the region.
- Participate in the continued development of pediatric neurology clinical pathways, referral processes, and regional access strategies.
- Collaborate with neurology, neurosurgery, primary care, rehabilitation, behavioral health, and other specialties as appropriate.
- Support quality improvement, patient safety, clinical effectiveness, and patient experience initiatives.
- Participate in educational and academic activities consistent with the mission of WVU Medicine and available faculty opportunities.
- Contribute to the strategic growth of neuroscience services across the Eastern Panhandle.
Clinical Scope
The practice may include evaluation and management of pediatric patients with conditions such as:
- Concussion Diagnosis/Treatment/Management
- Epilepsy and seizure disorders
- Headache and migraine disorders
- Developmental and neurodevelopmental disorders
- Neuromuscular disorders
- Movement disorders
- Cerebral palsy and disorders of motor development
- Pediatric sleep-related neurological conditions
- Neurological complications of systemic disease
- Other acute and chronic neurological conditions affecting children and adolescents
Position Structure
This is a 1.0 FTE Pediatric Neurology physician position designed to support both direct patient care and program development.
The anticipated allocation includes approximately:
0.85 FTE Clinical
- Approximately 70% outpatient pediatric neurology
- Approximately 15% inpatient pediatric neurology consultation, with flexibility based on evolving regional clinical needs
0.15 FTE Non-Clinical
- Program development
- Quality improvement
- Clinical pathway development
- Education and academic activities
- Administrative and strategic initiatives supporting pediatric neuroscience growth
The clinical distribution may evolve as pediatric neurology services and patient volumes continue to grow.
Qualifications
Candidates should possess:
- MD or DO degree, or equivalent
- Successful completion of an accredited residency and pediatric neurology training program
- Board certification or board eligibility in Pediatric Neurology
- Eligibility for medical licensure in the State of West Virginia
- Eligibility for appropriate medical staff privileges
- Strong clinical, communication, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
- Commitment to high-quality, patient- and family-centered care

Program Development Opportunity
The Pediatric Neurologist will have the opportunity to play a meaningful role in developing pediatric neurological services within the Eastern Panhandle. The physician will work collaboratively with regional and system leadership to improve pediatric specialty access, strengthen referral pathways, and develop a sustainable regional model for pediatric neurological care.
The position provides an opportunity to combine clinical practice with program development, physician leadership, quality improvement, and academic engagement within an expanding neuroscience service line.
