Description
Seattle Children’s Heart Center is seeking a highly skilled Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Cardiac Acute Care team. Primary responsibilities include the management of postoperative cardiac surgery patients and patients with heart failure and/or heart transplant needs on the inpatient cardiac care unit. The APP will work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team and demonstrate flexibility to support other Heart Center clinical areas based on patient care and operational needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Inpatient Cardiac Management: Provide direct, high-acuity clinical care to pediatric patients with complex congenital and acquired heart disease on the Cardiac Acute Care Unit (Cardiac Specialty Care Unit / CSCU).
- Postoperative Care: Manage the continuum of care for post-cardiac surgery patients, including monitoring clinical recovery, optimizing hemodynamics, adjusting medical therapy, and preventing complications.
- Heart Failure & Transplant: Manage complex pediatric heart failure patients and individuals undergoing workup, bridging (including mechanical circulatory support/VAD), or post-operative recovery following pediatric heart transplantation.
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Partner closely with attending pediatric cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, intensivists, heart failure/transplant nurse coordinators, dietitians, pharmacists, and social workers.
- Cross-Coverage & Operational Flexibility: Demonstrate clinical adaptability by supporting adjacent clinical environments within the Heart Center based on patient census and operational demands.
- Family-Centered Communication: Partner with families to communicate complex clinical updates, discharge trajectories, and long-term care plans alongside Child Life specialists and supportive care teams.
Ideal Candidate
- Previous APP or clinical provider experience in pediatric cardiology, cardiac acute care, pediatric critical care (CICU/PICU), or step-down environments.
- Demonstrated competence in the acute management of congenital heart defects, pediatric heart failure, mechanical circulatory support (VADs), and organ transplantation.
- Strong collaborative, communication, and critical-thinking skills in high-acuity multidisciplinary environments.

Location & Work Schedule
- Location: Main Hospital Campus – Seattle, WA.
- Schedule: Full-time (1.0 FTE) ; rotating shifts (Days and Nights) to support 24/7/365 inpatient coverage as operational needs require.

Required Education and Experience
Master’s degree in nursing with a concentration in a pediatric or family nurse practitioner program.
One year work experience in a pediatric or family focused clinical area.
Required Credentials
Active, unencumbered registered nurse and advanced registered nurse practitioner licensure in the State of Washington.
Current national certification as a pediatric or family nurse practitioner.
Active Drug Enforcement Authority registration.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
Active clinical privileges as an Allied Health Provider, Seattle Children’s Hospital.
Prior to start of employment, must obtain, and maintain in good standing, medical or allied health professional staff privileges that are not limited, revoked, suspended, conditioned, or probationary, except for normal probationary periods due to initial appointment.
All medical and allied health professional staff members are provisional for the first year.
Any and all medical or allied health professional staff privileges at Children's will terminate automatically upon the termination of the individual's employment at Children's.
Termination of employment does not prohibit the individual from seeking medical or allied health professional staff privileges at Children’s as a non-employee in any category for which the individual qualifies.

Preferred
Two years experience in a nurse practitioner role.
Two years experience in pediatric health care.
Compensation Range
$137,321.42 - $201,961.62 per year
Note: This position is currently eligible for an off-shift premium of up to 7% which would increase the total compensation of this role by an additional $ to $9,612 to $14,137 per year.
*This position is eligible for relocation for qualified candidates.*
Salary Information
This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.
