The Position:

AMEWAS is seeking a highly motivated and talented Security Specialist (Facilities)-Journeyman to support Battlespace Modeling & Simulation. The salary range of this position is $78,000.00 - $120,000.00 and is commensurate with experience. This position is not eligible for remote work; on-site support is required.

Position Background:

The Joint Simulation Environment (JSE) Patuxent River is the enterprise-wide center of excellence for developing the DoD’s premier modern warfare training and operational test bed system. JSE is a world class simulation experience for the warfighter. This simulation requires multiple software products to be integrated and work seamlessly together to provide the required warfighter need. The JSE software structure has products grouped into two groups, the first being JSE Technical Baseline (JTB) which is the group of products that creates the high-fidelity environment of the simulation. The second group is the JSE Platform Packages (JPP). This is the group of products that allow for platform simulations to be able to integrate into the simulation environment. As a Physical Security Specialist, you will be part of the Physical Security Team responsible for the secure spaces and labs that fall under the Battlespace Division, and some Integrated Battlespace & Test (IBST) Department spaces as needed.

 

A typical day as a Security Specialist (Facilities)-Journeyman may include:

  • Acts as lab manager for a secured lab
  • Completes day-to-day tasking in a secure environment
  • Reviews checklists
  • Conducts media inventories
  • Develops, participates in, and/or provides security training and awareness
  • Implements and maintains physical security requirements and conducts inspections
  • Coordinates with access control personnel for resident and visitor access
  • Issues access control badges and verifies security clearances via DISS
  • Assists in maintaining an internal security program including required tasks for safeguarding classified information
  • Addresses and mitigates security incidents with personnel and leadership
  • Assists with the preparation and execution of providing training on a variety of security-related topics to diverse groups using different techniques and technologies
  • Researches and provides recommendations for office infrastructure and hardware equipment
  • Uses general awareness of all security disciplines to identify situations requiring consultation with other security specialists (Industrial Security, Physical Security, Personnel Security, Information Security, Operations Security, Communications Security, etc.)
  • Conducts and assists other security specialists with quarterly, semi-annual/annual facility and material inventories
  • Updates and coordinates alarm response via recall list and access list control
  • Functions as the alarm panel administrator by adding and removing users, conducting minor troubleshooting, submitting service tickets, conducting alarm  and breach checks, responding to system alarms, and retaining required documentation
  • Maintains and controls the issuance of security locks and locking devices (X-09, X-10, etc.) including repair tickets
  • Maintains/Updates emergency action plans
  • Creates and maintains monthly SF701 and SF702 forms in accordance with installation regulations
  • Coordinates with contractors for service, repairs, and upgrades
  • Manages key control and documentation
  • Maintains safe inventory and documentation (Equipment, Inventory Sheets, Open/Closed, Safe Door forms, etc.) monthly
  • Maintains lab documentation monthly (SOPs, visitor/media/laptop/discrepancy logs and personnel documentation for required training)


Must-haves:

  • HS Diploma or equivalent
  • 3 years of relevant work experience
  • The ability to climb and work on tall ladders
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (MS Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint)
  • The ability to effectively communicate in security related situations and disseminate information
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Minimum clearance required to apply (candidates who do not currently hold the required clearance will not be considered): DoD Secret Clearance
  • Current clearance required upon onboarding: DoD Top Secret Clearance
  • Additional Accesses: The ability to obtain and maintain the DoD security clearance eligibility and/or additional security access requirements necessary to perform the duties of the position, as required by the contract. U.S. Citizenship is required for all clearances.


Desired Skills:

  • Experience working on electronic doors locks
  • Geographical location within one hour of NAS Pax River
  • Experience with access control, badging, Intrusion Detection System (IDS) operation, Automated Entry Control Systems (AECS) and the Department of Defense Lock Program
  • Familiarity with X-07, X-08, X-09, X-10, and S&G locks including changing combinations and updating SF700s
  • Familiarity with security requirements from SECNAV 5510.3 and OPNAVINST 5530.14
  • Experience in handling STIG and traditional Security checklists, DoD instructions/manuals, etc.
  • The ability to research, interpret and implement DoD guidelines and regulations for a classified environment

Physical Environment and Working Conditions:

The physical environment for this position requires the employee to work in an office, sitting in a cubicle or at a desk, looking at a computer for most of the workday. Work is physically comfortable. The employee has discretion about sitting, walking, standing, etc.

 

The employee may be required to travel short distances to offices/conference rooms and buildings on site or near the work site. On rare occasions, overnight travel may be required.
