About the Team:
The People team at Dow Jones is dedicated to attracting, developing, and retaining world-class talent that drives our mission forward. As strategic partners, we provide comprehensive support across the entire employee lifecycle. Our team includes Talent Acquisition, Talent Management, People Business Partners, Compensation, HR Operations, Workplace, and Security—all working together to create an exceptional employee experience. We champion a culture of inclusion, innovation, and excellence, ensuring our people have the resources, support, and opportunities they need to thrive and do their best work.
About the Role
Based in New York, NY or Washington, DC, the Manager, Threat Management supports the Global Risk, Safety & Resilience (GRSR) team by delivering intelligence-driven insights that enable the organization to identify, assess, and mitigate threats to Dow Jones personnel, journalists, facilities, and operations.
This role serves as a subject-matter expert in threat management and protective intelligence, helping evaluate and mature Dow Jones’ existing threat management capabilities. The Manager will assess current processes, technologies, intelligence sources, monitoring platforms, and investigative workflows to identify capability gaps, redundancies, and opportunities for improvement, and develop recommendations for a more holistic and integrated threat management program.
The position focuses on identifying and evaluating threat actors, targeting behaviors, and emerging risk dynamics that may impact Dow Jones employees, journalists, executives, and public-facing activities. This includes threats such as harassment, intimidation, stalking, doxxing, insider risk indicators, extremist activity, civil unrest, and geopolitical developments that may affect personnel, operations, or events.
A key responsibility of this role is evaluating and improving the organization’s existing threat intelligence and monitoring ecosystem. The Manager will assess the effectiveness of current intelligence providers, digital monitoring capabilities, GSOC and investigative platforms, and other security technologies, making recommendations on how these capabilities should be integrated, enhanced, or evolved to support a sustainable threat management program.
This role is ideal for a technically capable and intellectually curious threat management professional who understands how technology, intelligence, and operational processes can work together to improve threat detection, assessment, and response. The Manager will also identify opportunities to leverage automation, AI-enabled workflows, analytics, and other emerging technologies where they can meaningfully improve the program.
The role also supports investigative activities related to threats and security incidents impacting Dow Jones personnel, ensuring emerging threat indicators are appropriately validated, assessed, escalated, and managed. The Manager will work closely with affected individuals and cross-functional partners, requiring strong judgment, discretion, empathy, and emotional intelligence when supporting individuals experiencing threats, harassment, stalking, or other targeted activity.
You Will
- Identify and assess threat actors, targeting behaviors, and emerging threat dynamics that may impact Dow Jones personnel, journalists, executives, or facilities.
- Evaluate existing threat management processes, technologies, intelligence sources, and monitoring capabilities to identify gaps, redundancies, and opportunities for improvement.
- Develop threat assessments evaluating risks related to harassment, insider threats, geopolitical instability, civil unrest, reputational exposure, or other security concerns affecting the organization.
- Translate complex intelligence signals into clear and actionable protective intelligence insights for leadership and operational stakeholders.
- Identify early warning indicators and behavioral escalation signals that may indicate increased threat activity.
- Assess and optimize the use of threat intelligence, digital monitoring, GSOC, investigative, and other security technology platforms across the threat management lifecycle.
- Develop recommendations for future-state tools, workflows, and capabilities that strengthen Dow Jones’ overall threat management program.
- Identify opportunities to leverage automation, analytics, or AI-enabled workflows to improve threat detection, assessment, monitoring, and response.
- Produce written intelligence products including threat briefs, situational awareness reports, executive briefings, and operational risk summaries.
- Provide intelligence insights that support operational planning, travel safety, newsroom assignments, executive protection, and event security.
- Assess online threats, harassment campaigns, doxxing activity, insider risk indicators, or other forms of targeted behavior directed toward Dow Jones personnel.
- Support and conduct investigations related to threats or security incidents affecting employees, journalists, executives, or facilities.
- Brief stakeholders across security, editorial, and leadership teams on emerging threats, assessments, and risk implications.
- Build and maintain relationships with relevant law enforcement and external partners to support the escalation and resolution of threats impacting Dow Jones personnel or operations.
- Serve as a trusted threat management resource to internal partners across the organization.
You Have
- 7+ years of experience in threat management, protective intelligence, geopolitical risk analysis, or related disciplines.
- Experience developing or improving intelligence monitoring workflows that automate the aggregation of intelligence feeds and operational reporting into centralized dashboards, alerts, or situational awareness tools.
- Strong technical aptitude and intellectual curiosity, with demonstrated experience leveraging intelligence, digital risk, GSOC, and investigative platforms to improve threat detection, assessment, monitoring, and case management.
- Experience conducting protective intelligence analysis or threat assessments involving targeted threats against individuals or organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to aggregate intelligence from multiple sources - including external intelligence providers, internal monitoring capabilities, and open-source reporting - and translate those inputs into actionable threat assessments and operational risk insights.
- Strong understanding of OSINT, digital monitoring methodologies, threat actor analysis, and online targeting behaviors.
- Experience producing written intelligence assessments, situational awareness reports, and executive briefings.
- Strong analytical judgment and communication skills, with the ability to evaluate credibility, intent, escalation risk, and operational impact.
- High emotional intelligence and interpersonal judgment, with the ability to build trust and communicate empathetically and professionally with individuals experiencing threats, harassment, stalking, or other targeted activity.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners across security, legal, HR, editorial, cyber, and operational teams.
- Ability to operate effectively in dynamic environments where emerging threats require rapid synthesis of intelligence, sound judgment, and timely decision support.
