Description
The QA Technician I role is an entry level position within the Quality department at the Newport News location and is designed for internal candidates seeking transition from other Printpack departments as well as external candidates possessing prior quality control experience. The job will include training, and the associate will be supervised.
Wage: $20-26 per hour depending on experience
Hours 7pm to 7am- 36/48 work schedule
$2.50 an hour shift differential
Ability to train on day shift
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Execute quality assurance sampling and testing in accordance with internal standards and customer specifications.
- Has clear understanding and use a variety of lab and testing equipment to access the physical attributes or geometry of the product per the SPC data tables and job packets.
- Conduct visual inspections on all representative samples from materials produced across multiple production lines/processes.
- Exhibit proficiency in the utilization of measurement instruments in both US customary and metric systems.
- Articulate and disseminate results effectively to various levels of personnel, including Department Operators, Team Leads, Supervisors, and Management.
- Navigate and extract pertinent job and production information, specifications, and testing frequency requirements from Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) interfaces and SPC software.
- Ensure accurate and timely data entry into the SPC system for comprehensive record-keeping and reporting purposes.
- Conducts new item qualifications.
- Conducts process audits of Production operations for quality assurance and process compliance and food safety as assigned.
- Create hold tags for defective material and ensure proper identification of product.
- Understands and uses Statistical Process Control (SPC) tools such as run charts and control charts, within internal SPC software to monitor processes and respond appropriately to results.
- Has a working understanding of Printpack manufacturing processes of Extrusion, Thermoforming and Dry offset printing.
- Has a clear understanding of visual defect attributes from these processes.
- Has a working understanding of all gauges used in the plant for quality control.
- Uphold and contribute to the department's 5S standards, including housekeeping practices and efficient inventory management of supplies.
- Organize and archive job activities, laboratory data sheets, and retain samples on a daily basis.
- Engage in and contribute to Food Safety, Continuous Improvement (CI), Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), and Behavior-Based Safety Observation (BBSO) initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Eligible for role with 0 - 5 years of QA Technician or equivalent industry experience along with acceptable conduct/behavior.
- Experience in industrial manufacturing; lab experience preferred
- Proficiency in computer skills, time management, and data interpretation required
- Skilled in using measurement tools in both US and Metric systems required
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures and work instructions required
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail required
- High school diploma or G.E.D. required; must be 18 years or older
- Willingness to learn, ask questions, and be taught new skills and concepts
- Ability to maintain a clean and safe work environment
Preferred:
- General knowledge and work experience in Extrusion and/or Forming departments
- 5 Years of job-related experience
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Possesses the ability to prioritize
- Experience working in an ISO FSSC 2000 Company, ISO 9001 or other quality management system
- Experience auditing in a manufacturing environment
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no direct supervisory duties.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to stand for significant periods of time and to move throughout the plant (this includes steps and ladders). Work is shared between a laboratory environment, manufacturing plant environment, and in the warehouse.
