This job is responsible for developing and delivering complex requirements to accomplish business goals. Key responsibilities of the job include ensuring that software is developed to meet functional, non-functional and compliance requirements, and solutions are well designed with maintainability/ease of integration and testing built-in from the outset. Job expectations include a strong knowledge of development and testing practices common to the industry and design and architectural patterns.


The Senior Mainframe Application Developer is a critical member of the application development team, responsible for the design, development, maintenance, and support of business-critical mainframe applications. This role requires deep expertise in legacy platform technologies, strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, and the ability to ensure the stability, reliability, and ongoing enhancement of complex systems that support key business functions.


Responsibilities:

  • Codes solutions and unit test to deliver a requirement/story per the defined acceptance criteria and compliance requirements
  • Designs, develops, and modifies architecture components, application interfaces, and solution enablers while ensuring principal architecture integrity is maintained
  • Performs spike/proof of concept as necessary to mitigate risk or implement new ideas
  • These application program solutions may involve diverse development platforms, software, hardware, technologies and tools
  • May provide technical direction and system architecture for individual initiatives
  • Serves as a fully seasoned/proficient technical resource. Will not have direct reports but may lead projects and direct activities of a team related to special initiatives or operations.
  • Codes solutions and unit test to deliver a requirement/story per the defined acceptance criteria and compliance requirements
  • Designs, develops, and modifies architecture components, application interfaces, and solution enablers while ensuring principal architecture integrity is maintained
  • Mentors other software engineers and coach team on Continuous Integration and Continuous Development (CI-CD) practices and automating tool stack
  • Executes story refinement, definition of requirements, and estimating work necessary to realize a story through the delivery lifecycle
  • Performs spike/proof of concept as necessary to mitigate risk or implement new ideas
  • Automates manual release activities
  • Designs, develops, and maintains automated test suites (integration, regression, performance)

Required Qualifications:


  • 10+ years of mainframe development experience using COBOL, VSAM, DB2
  • Proficient in JCL, Endevor, Easytrieve+
  • Proficient in mainframe assembly language
  • Good understanding of NDM & SFTP
  • Ability to work in an Agile development environment & working knowledge of Jira
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Motivated, Self-Starter, Organized and ability to work independently
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Able to work in a separate location and time zones from other team members and meet goals
  • Successful candidate will be expected to have experience in all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle/ Software Testing Life Cycle (SDLC/STLC) and their interrelationships


Desired Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of relevant work experience
  • Proficiency in programming language(s) required for the role
  • Ability to work on multiple deliverables simultaneously, adhere to tight deadlines and adapt to changing priorities
  • Strong organization skills
  • Communicate effectively across varied areas including technology, business units and senior leadership
  • Experience working on large scale enterprise systems
  • Knowledge of Unix Scripting and Oracle PLSQL
  • Knowledge of Application development using alternate tech stacks like Java or Python, Oracle or NoSQL MongoDB
