PURPOSE AND SCOPE
This position, reporting to the VP Service in the region, is responsible for overseeing excellence in the installation of equipment throughout the district while maintaining profitability and efficient use of resources. Depending on the size of the district, this position may be responsible for service, installation, or both. The position works with subordinates, district sales and administrative managers, stakeholders within other districts and independent representatives, vendors, OpCo staff, and customers, to do this.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Note, these duties are separated between service and installation, and the Director may be responsible for either or both, depending on the district.
General Duties:
- The position must maintain up-to-date technical knowledge on all products sold by the district as well as major industry trends and competitive products.
- The incumbent is responsible for developing strategy for the assigned area(s) throughout the district. Works with VP Service and District Sales Managers to forecast resource needs and then create operational plans to ensure those needs are met
- Disseminates best practices throughout the District, and proactively shares key learnings with personnel in other Districts.
- Working through Service and Installation Managers, this position is responsible for ensuring that all Arbon Technicians in the assigned areas are trained, including initial as well as ongoing training, and ensuring progress in completing the Technician Training Standard and movement through the ASAPP levels of development.
- This position is responsible for managing the safety of all Technicians and enforcing safety standards through subordinate managers. This includes ensuring initial and periodic safety training, ensuring that all Technicians have proper, functioning safety equipment, periodic inspections of equipment and safety audits, and enforcing safety policies and compliance with applicable occupational safety and health regulations, and developing standards and processes for ensuring this happens district-wide. Should an accident occur, this position is responsible for completing the proper documentation, investigating the accident, and taking appropriate steps (including corrective action, if warranted) to minimize future risks-
- This position is responsible for enforcing all Company policies and performance standards. This includes training new managers on policies and procedures, making sure all employees aware of these policies through an effective orientation, communicating changes, setting expectations for performance, and holding employees accountable through the use of corrective action as appropriate.
- If assigned one of the two areas (Service or Installation) but not both, coordinates efforts and resources with the partner managing the other side to maximize profitable use of resources.
- This position is responsible for monitoring and identifying performance problems in service personnel and for taking a proactive approach to correcting negative behaviors. At a minimum, this position is responsible for conducting 2 performance reviews with all direct reports each year and ensuring subordinate managers do the same.
- This position is responsible for fleet management of vehicles, ensuring proper maintenance is conducted and that each Technician has a safe vehicle that complies with applicable regulations
- Working through the Administrative personnel and subordinate managers, works to keep Work In Process to a minimum.
- Working as a team with Administrative and Sales personnel and with customers, this position assists in resolving outstanding collections issues and minimizing the aging of Accounts Receivables
- Working in conjunction with VP Service and district management, forecasts facility needs throughout the district; leads new facility acquisition, expansion, and move efforts; and oversees the management of those facilities.
- This position is responsible for managing all related expenses, including labor, supplies, materials, and travel costs. Reviews financial reports monthly, identifying areas of good and poor financial performance, trends, and ways to improve profitability.
Installation Management: Works with subordinate Installation Managers and Field Superintendents to execute the following:
- Focusing primarily on major installation projects throughout the district, ensures that these projects are carried out to exceed customer expectations while maintaining acceptable profit margins.
- On a case by case basis, may personally manage large installations.
- This position is responsible for building a strong installation team, including both in-house Technicians and subcontractors. This includes forecasting personnel needs to assure sufficient staff is available to meet demand while keeping overtime costs within acceptable parameters, looking at the district strategically in terms of new office locations and expansion opportunities
- This position ensures that, in all areas and for all product lines, both Rite-Hite and allied, appropriate subcontractors are available. This will include mechanical, specialty trades, and union subcontractors, as appropriate.
- Sources and screens new subcontractors, ensuring they meet Arbon requirements for insurance and other regulatory compliance, and ensures they are trained and held accountable to Arbon standards.
- Negotiates pricing with subcontractors.
- This position serves as a resource to the sales staff by assisting with the technical aspects of installations. This position will also serve as the point person for any customer (including general contractors) having a technical question on our product or installation related questions.
- This position ensures the quality of work by all Technicians and subcontractors by ensuring effective training, regular quality audits, periodic spotchecks, and completion of punch lists on major projects.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelors degree form a four-year college or university
- Ten or more years in a field service or construction management environment, at least five of them at a management level, as appropriate.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Must be able to read blueprints and project plans as well as technical manuals
- Must have strong leadership and project management skills
- Must be proficient in Microsoft office suite and related products
- Must be proficient with Servicemax and Salesforce and related programs
- This position will require significant (20%+) overnight travel
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages up to ten subordinate Service and/or Installation Managers who are responsible for all district Technicians, as well as Field Superintendents and subcontractors on the installation side.
