Specialist I - Vehicle Maintenance

The Specialist I - Vehicle Maintenance position is a full-time role with benefits and a preferred hiring range of $22.35 - $24.58 per hour (equivalent to $46,488 - $51,126 annually); however, an exact salary will be dependent upon the selected candidate's qualifications/experience and in compliance with City policy.

As a Specialist I in the Department of Public Transportation, you'll perform a variety of difficult technical work on a progressive variety of small engines, tools, automotive equipment, medium equipment, and heavy equipment in the City's Central Garage, which services all City of Harrisonburg departments. In this vital role, you'll have an opportunity to perform preventative maintenance, respond to minor service calls and repair vehicles/equipment in the field, and perform other related duties to ensure the City has operationally-sound vehicles and equipment to carry out high-quality City services.

• High school diploma or GED and moderate (1-3 years) experience in a vehicle repair/maintenance vocational training or work environment.
• Valid driver's license at time of hire. Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required within six (6) months of hire date. Paid, on-the-job training will be provided.
• Air Conditioning (AC) Certification (609) is required within six (6) months of hire date.

The selected candidate for this position will be subject to the following screenings and must receive satisfactory results:

• Virginia Department of Education physical examination;
• Federal Transit Administration (FTA) physical examination;
• FMCSA pre-employment drug screening;
• FMCSA Clearinghouse Query;
• DMV record review;
• Criminal background check.

This position is subject to FMCSA alcohol and controlled substances testing regulations.
