JOB SUMMARY
Employees in this position receives direct supervision from the Telecom Fiber Lead Technician. Position is responsible for installation, provisioning and maintenance of various fiber optic telecommunications systems supported by CNS Next, Thomasville Utilities and the SGGSA cities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (examples, not all inclusive)
- Construction of aerial and underground fiber optic cabling utilizing bucket trucks, trenchers, hand tools, etc.
- Installation, splicing, connectorization, maintenance and repair of various fiber optic networks utilizing OTDR, fusion splicer and optical light meters, etc.
- FTTH installations to include installing fiber optic drop, NIDS, ONT, terminals, etc..
- Provide as built drawings for any new fiber installations so they can be added to the fiber maps.
- Installation, provisioning, testing, and troubleshooting of various TDM and Ethernet telecom data circuits such as T-1, DS3, 10/100Mbs, GigE and Nortel platforms. Works in conjunction with Network Operations Center to maintain system integrity and connectivity.
- Installation, provisioning, testing and troubleshooting of LAN applications to include all network cabling, racking, terminations and provisioning.
- Ensure system compliance of ITS, FCC regulations and CNS Next minimum operating specifications. Ensure guidelines are being met in respect to NESC, NEC, FCC, UPC, OSHA, DOT and local code enforcement.
- Observing, practicing and enforcing all safety procedures and regulations set by CNS Next.
- Work with CNS Next management to effect positive and productive operations in technical staff area.
- Ensure a safe work environment for self, all technical staff and the general public.
- Material management and coordination with warehouse personnel to ensure an operational supply of materials and equipment are in constant supply.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- High School Graduate or equivalent.
- Associate degree in electronics, telecommunications or related field is preferred.
- 2 to 3 years of experience in the electronic/telecommunication or related industry is preferred.
- Valid Driver's license with a good driving record.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must be extremely computer literate and familiar with Windows, MS Office, etc.
- Must be familiar with NESC, NEC, FCC and OSHA regulations.
- Must possess strong organization and project management skills.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS
Mobility and physical capability to work in a year-round outdoor environment is required. Must be able to lift 75lbs. In addition, vision to read printed materials and computer screen and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The primary work environment of this position is outdoors and is subject to extreme weather conditions.
