Description

We are seeking an experienced Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Designer (Construction Support – CS) for marine and shipbuilding projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing design and technical support to shipyard production teams, resolving electrical and instrumentation-related design issues, updating production drawings, and ensuring design accuracy, constructability, and compliance with project specifications and applicable marine standards.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide construction and production support for Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) design activities in marine and shipbuilding projects.
  • Prepare, review, and revise E&I design deliverables, including:
    • Electrical equipment layout and arrangement drawings
    • Cable routing, cable tray, and cable ladder layouts
    • Cable schedules, cable termination drawings, and interconnection diagrams
    • Lighting and small power layouts
    • Electrical installation and equipment connection drawings
    • Instrument location and installation drawings
    • Instrument cable routing and hook-up drawings
    • Junction box layouts, termination diagrams, and instrument wiring drawings
    • Earthing and bonding layout drawings
    • Electrical and instrumentation equipment installation details
    • Production, fabrication, and installation drawings
    • 2D drawings and 3D models for E&I systems
  • Review shop drawings and production information to identify discrepancies and resolve E&I design-related issues.
  • Provide technical support to shipyard production teams for electrical and instrumentation installation, assembly, and construction activities.
  • Resolve technical queries (TQs), drawing discrepancies, cable routing conflicts, and installation-related design problems.
  • Incorporate engineering changes, production feedback, and redline mark-ups into drawings, cable schedules, and 3D models.
  • Coordinate with Hull Structure, Hull Outfitting, Machinery Outfitting, Piping, HVAC, and other engineering disciplines to ensure proper integration and avoid design clashes.
  • Verify cable routing, equipment locations, installation clearances, and interfaces with marine equipment and structural arrangements.
  • Review vendor drawings, equipment specifications, and technical documentation to ensure compatibility with project design requirements.
  • Ensure E&I design deliverables comply with project specifications, applicable marine standards, classification requirements, and shipyard construction practices.
  • Support constructability reviews and identify potential installation constraints before execution.
  • Maintain updated production drawings, cable schedules, design records, and technical documentation in accordance with project procedures.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams, equipment vendors, and production personnel to ensure timely resolution of design issues.
  • Support as-built drawing updates and incorporate final production modifications, where required.
  • Ensure design deliverables are completed within agreed project schedules and quality requirements.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or an equivalent engineering discipline.
  • 5–10 years of relevant experience in Electrical & Instrumentation design within marine, shipbuilding, shipyard, offshore vessel, or related offshore engineering projects.
  • Hands-on experience in Construction Support (CS), shipyard production support, and production drawing modifications.
  • Strong experience in electrical and instrumentation layouts, cable routing, equipment installation, and associated production drawings.
  • Proficiency in marine 3D design software, preferably AVEVA Marine / Hull & Outfitting, or other shipbuilding CAD software accepted by the client.
  • Experience preparing and modifying 2D production drawings, 3D models, cable routing layouts, termination drawings, and installation details.
  • Good understanding of marine electrical systems, instrumentation installation, cable trays, cable glands, junction boxes, earthing, and bonding arrangements.
  • Ability to interpret electrical and instrumentation drawings, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, equipment specifications, vendor documentation, and production mark-ups.
  • Experience resolving technical queries and supporting shipyard production teams during electrical and instrumentation installation activities.
  • Familiarity with marine electrical standards, applicable IEC requirements, classification society rules, and project specifications.
  • Experience coordinating with Hull Structure, Hull Outfitting, Machinery Outfitting, Piping, HVAC, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Experience in new-build shipbuilding projects, offshore vessels, FPSOs, or similar marine engineering projects is preferred.
  • Exposure to international shipyards, marine EPC contractors, or multidisciplinary engineering environments is preferred.
  • Strong technical problem-solving, drawing interpretation, coordination, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a project-driven engineering and shipyard production environment.
