Description
As the Government Relations Director for Malaysia, you will play a key role in supporting the company’s factory expansion and strategic investment plans. You will lead engagement with federal, state, and local government stakeholders to facilitate regulatory approvals, investment incentives, infrastructure support, and other requirements related to manufacturing expansion.
You will also monitor Malaysia’s policy and regulatory landscape, identify potential risks and opportunities, and provide strategic advice to senior management. Working closely with internal teams including Legal, Finance, Engineering, Procurement, Operations, and project teams, you will help ensure the company’s business and investment objectives are aligned with government and regulatory requirements.
What You Will Do
- Lead government engagement strategies to support factory expansion, new manufacturing facilities, and capital investment projects in Malaysia.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with federal, state, and local government authorities, ministries, agencies, regulators, policymakers, industry associations, and other public-sector stakeholders.
- Act as the key liaison with government stakeholders throughout the planning and execution of expansion and investment projects.
- Facilitate government approvals, permits, licenses, regulatory clearances, and other requirements related to factory construction and expansion.
- Coordinate government engagement related to land acquisition, land conversion, planning approvals, and industrial development.
- Work with relevant authorities and utility providers on infrastructure requirements, including roads, electricity, water, gas, telecommunications, and wastewater services.
- Identify and pursue available government investment incentives, tax incentives, and manufacturing support programs.
- Coordinate submissions to relevant investment promotion and regulatory agencies and ensure compliance with conditions attached to approvals and incentive programs.
- Monitor legislation, policies, regulations, and political developments that may impact manufacturing operations, industrial development, environmental compliance, utilities, and infrastructure.
- Assess regulatory and policy developments and provide strategic recommendations to senior management.
- Prepare policy position papers, consultation responses, and advocacy materials and support engagement on regulatory reforms.
- Represent the company in government meetings, consultations, conferences, and public policy forums.
- Coordinate senior executive engagement with government officials and regulatory bodies.
- Partner with Legal, Compliance, Engineering, Finance, Procurement, Operations, and project teams on regulatory and government-related matters.
- Proactively identify and resolve government-related issues that could impact project timelines.
What You Will Need
- 10–15 years of experience in government relations, public affairs, regulatory affairs, public policy, corporate affairs, or a related area.
- Strong knowledge of Malaysia’s government, regulatory, industrial development, and investment landscape.
- Demonstrated experience managing government approvals related to factory construction, expansion, or industrial development.
- Experience working with government authorities on land, planning approvals, environmental permitting, utilities, and infrastructure development.
- Experience securing government investment incentives and supporting major capital investment projects.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to build constructive relationships across government agencies, regulators, and internal business functions.
- Ability to assess policy and regulatory developments and translate them into practical recommendations for senior management.
- Strong communication, coordination, and influencing skills.
