Description

Overview

Role Summary

The Clinical Development and Engagement Lead is responsible for advancing the professional development, engagement, onboarding, and integration of MPOWERHealth’s Surgical Assist (SA) teams. This role partners closely with Clinical Leadership, Operations, Talent Acquisition, HR, Marketing, and Business Development to ensure a high-quality clinician experience from candidate assessment through long-term engagement and retention. The Lead serves as a key steward of clinical culture, clinician experience, and workforce growth.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Direct, hands-on surgical clinical experience is required for this position. Candidates must have worked in a surgical or operating room clinical setting. General healthcare administration, clinical research, recruiting, or healthcare operations experience alone does not meet this requirement.

  • Professional experience as a surgical clinician, such as a Surgical First Assistant (CSFA, RNFA, LSA), Surgical Technologist, Operating Room RN, Surgical PA/NP, or a comparable hands-on surgical clinical role.

  • Strong understanding of operating room workflows, surgical procedures, clinical standards, and the responsibilities of surgical team members.

  • Experience working directly with surgeons, Surgical First Assists, and multidisciplinary OR teams.

  • Ability to assess surgical clinician qualifications, clinical competencies, training needs, and professional development opportunities.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.

  • Experience in clinical leadership, onboarding, education, employee engagement, or professional development is highly desirable.

1. Clinical Talent Assessment & Selection

  • Partner with internal and external Talent Acquisition teams to conduct first-pass candidate reviews, leveraging firsthand surgical clinical experience to identify qualified, high-potential clinicians.

  • Evaluate candidates' surgical backgrounds, procedural experience, clinical competencies, and readiness to work within Surgical Assist teams.

  • Determine which candidates advance through the interview process and coordinate next steps with SA Managers and Talent Acquisition.

  • Develop and maintain SOPs, interview guides, and assessment tools to evaluate clinical skills, professionalism, culture fit, and alignment with MPOWERHealth values.

  • Ensure Culture Index completion and distribution alongside candidate materials.

  • Provide SA Managers with consistently high-quality candidate pools for final interviews.

  • Coach clinical leaders on effective interviewing techniques to strengthen talent identification and ensure a positive candidate experience.

  • Continuously review and improve job descriptions and recruiting materials.

  • Maintain organized tracking of candidates, interviews, and hired clinicians.

2. Clinical Onboarding & Early Development

  • Own and continuously improve surgical clinician onboarding materials, training content, workflows, and SOPs.

  • Apply firsthand operating room knowledge to ensure onboarding prepares clinicians for surgical workflows, team expectations, and clinical responsibilities.

  • Partner with HR, IT, Credentialing, Operations, and Talent Managers to ensure seamless onboarding execution.

  • Lead onboarding meetings for new hires and coordinate hybrid onboarding experiences when appropriate.

  • Ensure all clinical access, logins, equipment, and resources are in place prior to onboarding start dates.

  • Conduct 30-day follow-ups with new hires, provide feedback to SA Leadership, and implement improvement actions.

  • Collaborate with clinical markets to develop structured onboarding, mentorship, and market-specific orientation support.

  • Travel as needed to support onboarding initiatives.

3. Clinical Development & Professional Growth

  • Partner with Clinical Leadership to identify surgical skill gaps and professional development needs across SA teams.

  • Leverage surgical clinical experience to support the development and implementation of clinical education resources, competency standards, and surgical best practices.

  • Assist in identifying high-potential surgical clinicians and opportunities for mentorship or advanced responsibility.

  • Collaborate with Quality and Education teams to align development initiatives with clinical excellence standards.

  • Support ongoing education initiatives that promote surgical competency, patient safety, and clinical performance.

4. Clinical Engagement & Experience

  • Own and evolve clinician engagement strategies across the full surgical clinician lifecycle.

  • Build trusted relationships with Surgical First Assist teams through a strong understanding of their clinical responsibilities and operating room challenges.

  • Maintain and enhance engagement initiatives, including company updates, announcements, recognition efforts, and team communications.

  • Develop engagement opportunities that foster connection, inclusion, and alignment with MPOWERHealth culture.

  • Partner with Operations to address engagement challenges related to scheduling, workload, and market-specific needs.

  • Serve as an advocate for SA teams by elevating feedback, trends, and improvement opportunities.

  • Collaborate with Marketing to tailor branding materials for recruiting, conferences, and engagement initiatives.

5. Recruiting Conferences & Brand Representation

  • Partner with Business Development to identify, organize, and attend high-yield recruiting conferences.

  • Serve as a knowledgeable clinical representative of MPOWERHealth, confidently discussing surgical workflows, First Assist responsibilities, and professional development opportunities.

  • Build relationships with surgical clinicians and prospective candidates.

  • Lead follow-up efforts with interested candidates after conferences.

  • Evaluate conference effectiveness and return on investment related to recruiting and brand awareness.

6. Integration & Retention Support

  • Support SA Operations and Clinical Leadership during integrations, market expansions, or acquisitions.

  • Provide integration support, including engagement strategy, communication, and onboarding alignment.

  • Apply surgical clinical knowledge to identify potential workflow challenges and support clinician transitions.

  • Conduct post-integration follow-ups to assess clinician satisfaction and experience.

  • Partner with HR and Clinical Leadership on retention strategies and early intervention efforts.

  • Provide recommendations to leadership based on engagement, onboarding, and retention insights.

  • Travel as needed to support integration efforts.

7. Data, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Track and analyze metrics related to recruiting pipelines, onboarding timelines, clinician engagement, and retention.

  • Identify trends and opportunities for improvement across the surgical clinician lifecycle.

  • Ensure documentation, SOPs, and processes remain current and audit-ready.

  • Present insights and recommendations to clinical and operational leadership.

  • Use clinical knowledge and data-driven insights to recommend improvements to clinician development and engagement programs.

Important Candidate Requirement

This is not a traditional healthcare operations, recruiting, or employee engagement position. The successful candidate must bring direct surgical clinical experience and the ability to connect with, evaluate, and support Surgical First Assist professionals from a firsthand clinical perspective.

Candidates whose backgrounds are exclusively in healthcare administration, recruiting, clinical research, or non-surgical clinical operations will not meet the minimum surgical experience
