Job Description
AltaGas - Operator 1 – Panel Control Operator, REEF
Join AltaGas' REEF Terminal Operations team in Prince Rupert, BC, and be part of commissioning, starting up and operating a large-scale marine export facility that supports AltaGas' global export strategy. REEF brings together sophisticated terminal operations, LPG handling and storage, and marine vessel loading in a 24/7 operating environment.
As a Panel Control Operator, you'll be involved from commissioning and ready-for-operations through startup and steady-state operations, giving you the opportunity to build deep knowledge of the facility and contribute to how the operation develops. Following startup, you'll operate REEF from a DeltaV DCS control console, managing the movement of propane and butane from railcars through chilling processes into LPG storage and ultimately VLGC vessel loading.
This isn't just an opportunity to operate an established facility. It's an opportunity to help bring one to life.
This is a full-time, site-based role and relocation to Prince Rupert, BC is required. This is not a camp-based or fly-in/fly-out position.
You will:
- Operate the DeltaV DCS and monitor facility conditions to support safe, reliable and efficient operations.
- Support commissioning, startup and ready-for-operations activities in both the field and control room.
- Champion safety and ensure work is completed in accordance with AltaGas' Environment, Health and Safety requirements, policies and operational procedures.
- Develop and execute operating procedures and lock-out/tag-out packages and contribute to Operational Plan development.
- Provide technical and operational leadership to Plant and Rail Operators in coordination with the Shift Supervisor.
- Monitor CCTV PTZ security systems and maintain strong situational awareness of terminal activities.
- Coordinate and communicate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Support equipment isolation, maintenance activities and work-order management through Maximo.
- Lead and support incident reporting, investigations, corrective actions and continuous improvement.
- Contribute to training programs and help build capability across the Operations team.
- Participate in Joint Occupational Health & Safety meetings and support strong housekeeping and operating standards.
You have:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 5+ years of experience in Gas Plant or Terminal Operations, with demonstrated leadership in control room operations.
- Minimum 2 years of control room experience, preferably with DeltaV (other systems considered).
- Previous experience in facility start-up and commissioning
- 4th Class Power Engineering certification required.
- Strong passion for team training and development.
- Proficiency in Windows-based applications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with EHS and PSM systems such as Maximo and Intelex is an asset.
- Strong time management and decision-making abilities.
- Exceptional organizational skills; able to work independently and collaboratively.
Why REEF?
Joining REEF means being part of something from the beginning. You’ll have the opportunity to contribute through commissioning, startup and ready-for-operations, building deep knowledge of the facility before transitioning into ongoing operations. You’ll expand your technical expertise across DeltaV DCS control, propane and butane movements, LPG storage and marine vessel loading, while also helping shape operating procedures, training programs and operational practices. For an experienced operator, this is an opportunity to take what you already know and apply it to a new, complex operation while building broader experience in terminal operations, marine exports, operational leadership and team development.
Compensation:
This position offers a base salary range of $125,000 to $146,000 annually, based on experience, education, and skills. AltaGas also provides a competitive relocation allowance and a comprehensive benefits package, including health coverage, retirement plans, and paid time off starting on day one.
