We are seeking to hire a Retail Accountant who will manage sales reconciliations, inventory accounting, cash and bank collections, receivables, expense verification, and financial reporting across a network of retail fuel stations. The role will ensure accurate transaction recording in Odoo ERP, safeguard company assets, minimise revenue leakage, and maintain compliance with applicable accounting, tax, and internal control requirements. The ideal candidate must possess a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field, a CPA(K) qualification or equivalent, and a minimum of 3 years' relevant accounting experience, preferably in petroleum retail. Experience with Odoo ERP, POS systems, Microsoft Excel, VAT, and eTIMS will be an added advantage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reconcile daily station sales against POS reports, pump readings, cash collections, M-Pesa, card transactions, credit sales, and bank deposits.
  • Ensure accurate recording of fuel, specialty products, convenience shop sales, and non-fuel income in Odoo ERP.
  • Reconcile fuel and other inventory movements, investigate stock variances, and coordinate stock valuation with the Inventory/Costing Accountant.
  • Verify station expenses, petty cash reconciliations, supplier documentation, and approved expenditure against budgets.
  • Monitor customer receivables, credit sales, outstanding collections, and unbanked revenue, escalating discrepancies promptly.
  • Reconcile electronic collections and ensure compliance with applicable VAT, eTIMS, and internal accounting requirements.
  • Monitor product margins, inventory losses, non-fuel income, and potential revenue leakage.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly sales, collections, stock variance, and financial performance reports.
  • Support month-end closure, management accounts preparation, audits, and periodic stock counts.
  • Maintain accurate financial records, reconciliation schedules, and supporting documentation for audit purposes.
  • Identify control weaknesses, irregular transactions, and unexplained variances, recommending corrective action.
  • Perform other duties related to retail accounting, financial reporting, and financial controls as assigned by the Head of Finance.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
  • CPA(K) qualification or equivalent recognised professional accounting qualification.
  • Minimum 3 years' relevant accounting experience, preferably in petroleum retail, FMCG, or multi-site retail operations.
  • Practical experience in sales and bank reconciliations, inventory accounting, receivables, and financial reporting.
  • Experience using ERP systems, preferably Odoo, and familiarity with POS systems.
  • Working knowledge of Kenyan VAT and eTIMS requirements.
  • Strong analytical, numerical, reconciliation, and Microsoft Excel skills.
  • High attention to detail, integrity, confidentiality, and accountability.
  • Good communication and organisational skills, with the ability to meet reporting deadlines and coordinate across departments.
