What you will do

As the Lab Technician, Product Safety you will conduct hands-on electrical safety testing and analysis in a lab environment, partnering with Product Safety Engineers to ensure medical devices meet strict compliance standards and support safe, effective product design.

  • Provide hands-on technical support to Product Safety Engineers by executing electrical safety testing on R&D medical devices in a laboratory environment.
  • Develop, adapt, and execute product-specific test methods and procedures based on broad safety standards (ISO, electrical safety), applying guidelines to unique product configurations.
  • Conduct and document test results, analyze data, and assist in identifying product safety risks or failures to support design improvements and compliance.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product Safety, Engineering, and Quality teams to ensure alignment on testing requirements, processes, and regulatory compliance.
  • Perform multiple tests in parallel, managing priorities independently while maintaining a strong focus on accuracy, organization, and documentation.
  • Support lab operations by maintaining equipment, managing calibration records, ordering supplies, and contributing to day-to-day lab functionality.
  • Assist in developing and refining test plans alongside Product Safety Engineers to ensure proper execution and adherence to safety standards and protocols.
  • Interpret electrical schematics and apply foundational electrical engineering principles to evaluate product safety and performance.
  • Work with internal teams, third-party labs, and contractors as needed to support product safety testing and compliance initiatives.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by helping establish best practices, supporting training initiatives, and driving efficient lab operations under general supervision.

What you need

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Three (3) years relevant work experience
  • Visual acuity:  20/20 vision with or without the aid of an assistive device (i.e. prescription glasses or contacts)
  • Ability to work flexible hours, as needed to support the business needs, including weekends and evenings as needed

Preferred

  • Associate’s Degree
  • Experience in electrical engineering, technician
  • Experience with laboratory quality systems (ISO 17025)
  • Demonstrate a good knowledge and comprehensive understanding of the range of processes, procedures and systems to be used in carrying out assigned Product Safety testing, and have a basic understanding of the underlying concepts & principles of the testing
  • Be familiar with accepted industry standards for product safety testing.  Be able to review and apply the following standards in the development of our products (not limited to the below standards):
    • IEC 60601-1 (General Safety Requirements for Medical Electrical Equipment)
    • IEC 60601-1-2 (EMC)
    • IEC 60601-2-52 (Electrically Operated Hospital Beds)
    • IEC 60529 (Ingress Protection for Enclosures)
    • IEC 61000 Series (EMC Testing Techniques)
    • UL 746C (Polymeric Material Used In Electrical Equipment)
    • Any ISO/AAMI Related Standards

  

 

$28.01 - $38.75 USD Hourly

  

 

Travel Percentage: 10%
