GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Food Service Assistant performs food assembly, delivery, collection, and sanitation duties to support the hospital’s daily meal service operations. This role ensures that patients receive timely, safe, and accurate meals according to prescribed diets. The Food Service Assistant also maintains cleanliness, assists with stock replenishment, and supports Dietetics & Food Services under the supervision of the Team Lead or Senior Food Service Assistant (where applicable).
JOB DESCRIPTION
Main Responsibilities
- Assemble patient meals and snacks, including late orders, according to prescribed diets and portion standards.
- Deliver meals and snacks to wards and provide courteous bedside meal service.
- Collect soiled trays, crockery, and utensils after each meal service.
- Facilitate patient menu selections for the following day when required.
- Participate in in-house catering and special event setup.
- Wash, sanitize, and store utensils, containers, and crockery.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of work areas, equipment, and service counters per food safety and Infection Control standards.
- Replenish supplies and verify stock levels as directed.
- Receive, label, and arrange food items and supplies in storage areas.
- Report equipment malfunction, safety concerns, or food quality issues promptly.
- Provide courteous and responsive service to patients, visitors, and hospital staff.
- Record meal service data and simple operational documentation.
- Comply with Halal, food hygiene, and hospital safety standards in all tasks.
- Operate trolleys, meal distribution equipment, and cleaning tools safely.
- Follow shift-closing procedures, including area cleaning, waste segregation, and equipment shutdown.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform any other responsibilities assigned by immediate superior or hospital management.
JOB REQUIREMENT
Education:
- Minimum SPM or equivalent.
Knowledge and Experiences:.
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience in food service or catering, ideally in an institutional or healthcare setting.
Skills & Competencies:
Special Skills Required:
- Basic knowledge of food hygiene, safe food handling.
- Ability to deliver meals accurately, courteously, and at the bedside while maintaining cleanliness and following SOPs.
- Competent in basic cleaning, sanitizing, restocking, and handling physical or time-sensitive service tasks.
- Good teamwork, communication, and collaboration skills within the food service team.
