While the Managing Optician will work within the optometry office located at MCHC, this position is not employed by Mendocino Community Centers (MCHC). The selected candidate will be employed by Optical Network Solutions, which will be responsible for all employment-related matters, including compensation, benefits, policies, and employment terms.
Role Overview
The Managing Optician is responsible for the professional and efficient operation of the optical department. This role ensures patients receive high-quality vision care, accurate product fitting, and exceptional service, while maintaining clinical standards and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Care & Dispensing: Expertly assist patients with frame selection, fitting, dispensing, repairs and adjustments to ensure comfort and visual clarity.
- Clinical Operations: Manage daily office duties, including opening and closing procedures, maintaining a clean and organized workspace, and ensuring efficient patient flow.
- Inventory Management: Oversee the inventory of frames, lenses, parts, and supplies; monitor trends to ensure an appropriate and stylish selection.
- Technical Expertise: Demonstrate a deep understanding of lens technology, frame materials, and optical terminology to educate patients and provide accurate recommendations.
- Administrative Excellence: Maintain accurate patient records, process insurance claims, and manage multi-line phone communications with professionalism.
- Collaboration & Growth: Work closely with doctors and clinic staff to promote optical services and maintain positive, productive relationships across all departments.
- Compliance: Strictly adhere to HIPAA regulations and safety standards in all patient interactions and workspace operations.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a customer service or optical environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in basic computer operating systems.
- Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
