Description
Mountains Community Hospital is seeking a customer-focused and detail-oriented Patient Access Representative to serve as the first point of contact for patients seeking emergency care. This role is essential in ensuring an efficient patient registration process, coordinating communication between patients and clinical staff, and supporting the daily operations of the Emergency Department.
What You'll Do
- Welcome and register Emergency Department patients with professionalism and compassion.
- Answer and route incoming telephone calls promptly and courteously.
- Obtain accurate demographic, insurance, and financial information.
- Verify insurance eligibility and identify authorization requirements.
- Explain insurance benefits and collect applicable co-pays and patient payments.
- Complete required admission and registration documentation while ensuring compliance with hospital and regulatory requirements.
- Notify nursing staff immediately of patient chief complaints and assist with patient flow, transfers, discharges, and coordination with other departments and outside facilities.
- Initiate and coordinate laboratory and imaging orders and monitor results.
- Maintain the Emergency Department patient log in accordance with state regulations.
- Provide clerical support to physicians, nurses, and other clinical staff to ensure efficient department operations.
- Participate in rotating on-call coverage to support 24/7 Emergency Department operations.
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or GED required.
- One to three years of customer service, receptionist, or healthcare registration experience preferred.
- Medical terminology knowledge preferred.
- Medical billing or insurance verification experience preferred.
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
Skills & Qualifications
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced Emergency Department environment.
- Computer proficiency and typing speed of 30–50 words per minute.
- Basic math skills, including cash handling and reconciliation.
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and compassionate during stressful situations.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions while exercising sound judgment.
