Description
A public library is more than a building. It is where children discover new worlds, students prepare for their futures, neighbors connect, and community members access resources that can change their lives. As Mountain View’s next Senior Security Services Guard (Limited Period, Full-time), you will help ensure everyone who enters the Mountain View Public Library feels welcome, respected, and safe.
This role calls for someone who can enforce Library rules when responding to situations that may affect the safety and comfort of customers and employees. At times, that will mean being firm and direct. At other times, it will require patience, empathy, and a thoughtful approach to de-escalation. Knowing how to strike that balance is at the heart of this position.
About the Role:
We’re looking for a reliable and customer service-oriented individual to maintain the safety and security of the Mountain View Public Library and premises for Library customers and employees as a SENIOR SECURITY SERVICES GUARD. You will join a fast-paced, dynamic team environment, actively monitoring the library building and grounds to ensure a welcoming and respectful environment, and compliance with the Library’s Behavior Policy.
We are looking for a candidate who can provide a nuanced approach to de-escalation. In challenging situations, this person can maintain a calm and respectful demeanor. This person can balance firmness with kindness, and can communicate clearly while remaining composed. A quality candidate will also be able to effectively communicate with other guards, contract security staff, library staff, and law enforcement in the event that additional support is necessary in managing incidents. They also will write clear, concise after-incident reports in a timely fashion to ensure all library staff are aware of emergent situations.
This position receives direction from the senior management and in-charge staff and will coordinate the training of contractors and hourly staff. This is a non-sworn position, does not carry weapons, and performs support functions.
Schedule is from Sunday through Thursday. Shifts from Sunday through Thursday are from 9:10 to 6:10 pm and 12:10 am to 9:10 pm.
